The Pack Mule is looking for a driven individual with a proven track record of leadership in a retail/grocery setting to join us as we launch a high-end grocer in Rapid City.
About The Pack Mule:
The Pack Mule combines the fine selection of quality products of a high-end grocery store with the well rounded selection and small-town character of your favorite general store under one roof. We are proud to partner with a wide array of producers near and far to provide the kind of food and beverages we employ in both of our downtown restaurants (Tally's and Delmonico Grill) as well as at our "sister store," Dakota Seafood.
We also be offering beer, wine and spirits in our liquor department, which will have longer weekend hours from the main store.
About you:
We are hoping to attract folks who appreciate good ingredients, culinary arts, and time spent both around the kitchen and around the dining room table as much as we do.
All candidates will have 5 year's minimum retail experience with preference given towards applicants with a background in a grocery store environment and bonus points for anyone coming from a "craft '' or specialty retail background (Trader Joe's, for example). All candidates will possess a proven track record of leadership and management.
We are also eager to hear from anyone with culinary arts training, and past experience as a restaurant manager or Chef.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and supervise the retail staff, providing guidance and support. Communicate with the executive team any perceived staffing needs. Recruit, hire and train staff as needed.
- Develop and implement effective sales strategies to drive revenue and to ensure store staff are knowledgeable about the awesome products we carry.
- Monitor and analyze sales performance, making adjustments as needed.
- Ensuring that the store is property stocked and that product is merchandised in an effective, "shoppable" and visually striking way.
- Handle guest inquiries, complaints, and escalations in a professional manner.
- Collaborate with vendors to negotiate pricing and terms for merchandise purchases. Find and recruit local and regional vendors with consideration towards variety, product "story" and a company ethos that matches our mission.
- Operate cash registers and handle financial transactions accurately. Become and maintain a fluency with Revel point of sale in both the "front end" user capacity as well as the "back end" administrative functions.
-See to the safe storage of food items to ensure freshness and food safety and to minimize loss. Working with the Culinary Director to ensure fresh food items and to produce food items ahead of any potential loss.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Retail Manager or similar role
- Excellent selling skills with a track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets
- Proficient in inventory control techniques and procedures
- Ability to effectively lead a team and foster a positive work environment
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities
- Strong negotiation skills to secure favorable pricing from vendors
- Familiarity with cash register operations and basic financial transactions
