Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE

Manage and control the overall daily responsibilities of plant operations and the physical site to ensure safety, maximize profitability, drive quality and productivity; ensuring the achievement of planning and executing production schedules, maintaining on-time shipping performance, maximizing labor utilization, reducing product cost, controlling quality costs, and managing inventory objectives, while assuring product quality is consistent with Kelvion objectives and standards for cost, quality, and customer satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide leadership, coaching and training to achieve the company goals and objectives.
  • Consistently review, participate in the development, and drive profit.

Coordinate plant activities including planning with all functional managers to ensure the total manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Develop both monthly and annual forecasts and budgets; send reports as required.
  • Direct and manage plant operations for production planning, inventory management, production, maintenance, quality, safety, and shipping and receiving.
  • Implement cost effective systems of control over operating expenditures, manpower, wages and salaries, and capital expenditures.
  • Oversee the administration of work rules, OSHA requirements, health / safety and environmental regulations ensuring monthly meetings occur. Good housekeeping practices and 6S, within the guidelines of the company.
  • Oversee plant wide regular maintenance schedule and preventative maintenance activity for the physical site and all plant equipment and other capital assets.
  • Work closely with the Production Supervisor(s), Buyer, Quality Manager, Manufacturing Engineering, and Maintenance to prioritize all activity to meet customer schedules, capacity requirements, manpower needs, and other resources needed to achieve schedules and goals for on time shipping, quality, and safety.
  • Assure the accuracy of inventory records, locations, balances, cycle counts, data base records, scrap reporting, bills of materials and Kanban systems.
  • Control shop expenses and minimize labor overtime, premium freight, and repair expenses.
  • Assign and oversee cost reduction projects, 6S, Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing principles, other projects as assigned, and regular ongoing continuous improvement activities.
  • Review financial results at least monthly for variances to Plan and F/C to preset goals and objectives and recommend recovery plans as necessary.
  • Occasional light travel to other Kelvion sites for meetings or to assist as needed.

COMPETENCY OR POSITION REQUIREMENTS (knowledge, skills and abilities)
  • Demonstrated experience of an effective Plant Manager.
  • Ability to delegate and manage resources to produce efficient and quality results.
  • ERP system knowledge and experience including inventory control, scheduling, and job order processing, and controlling priorities.
  • Familiar and knowledgeable with budgets and financial statements.
  • Working knowledge and track record of lean manufacturing concepts, including kaizen events, 5S/6S, pulls systems, visual control mechanisms, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team building and training skills, good interpersonal and communication skills, including working in a matrix environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (required levels)
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or general management preferred and 5-7 years plant/general management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must have held a progressive functional supervisory position in at least one of the following: scheduling, purchasing, inventory control, or line supervision.
  • Trained in lean manufacturing concepts.
  • Exhibit good math and computer skills, including Word, Excel, Power Point, and be able to process numerical concepts quickly.
  • Must understand quality certifications such as, ISO9002 or IATF16949.

Other Key Items
  • Be able to analyze financial statements for variances, track financial performance, and make recommendations based on trends.
  • Must participate in Quality Reviews, audits, and make management presentations.
  • Have project management skills for leading and organizing projects, providing progress tracking reports as directed, and coaching others to perform on cross-functional teams at a high level.
  • Use root cause analysis and various problem-solving techniques.
  • Be flexible to deal with change and be able to respond quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be able to perform routine physical tasks such as walking, bending, and lifting.
