Production VI - Fiber- Lead Machine Operator (Charlotte) 1st shift at Barnhardt Manufacturing Company in Charlotte, North Carolina

Job Description:

1st shift: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:00pm. Also working 2 weekends a month. Rate: $23.00 


*Must be clean shaven* *Leadership experience is required*


Summary:   


Monitor and/or delegate workload for a team of employees. Handle and/or feed material, set up, operate, monitor or tends machines to perform related operations in the manufacture of products.  Work to quality standards and specifications in accordance with established practices, processes, regulations, guidelines and standards in a safe and efficient manner.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:   


Other duties may be assigned. 


Abide by, enforce and participate in the implementation and ongoing oversight of all company safety standards and regulations.  


Set up and/or Prepare machines, equipment and materials for production runs, and conduct test runs of machines to ensure their proper operation. Monitor proper operation of machinery and delegate workload or work assignments to a group. Verify accuracy of associated production records.   


Operate or tend equipment or machines involved in the blending processing/cutting of natural or synthetic fibers/material in compliance with established specifications. Start, stop, clean, and monitor machines and equipment for proper functioning. Monitor equipment and processes to ensure adherence to standards.  Observe display screens, control panels, equipment, and fiber/material entering or exiting processes to determine if equipment is operating correctly; adjust equipment controls to maintain specified heat, pressure, tension, and/or speed. 


Follow specifications for the processing of material. Examine and feel products to identify defects and/or variations from processing standards. 


Accurately maintain and record production information, communicate with supervisor and/or relevant personnel on the condition of the operation/production and any unusual circumstances or issues. Notify supervisors or maintenance personnel of equipment malfunctions. 


Effectively clean and maintain machinery, equipment, and work areas to ensure proper functioning and safe working conditions. 


Train more junior or new associates in appropriate safety procedures, work instructions and quality standards. 


Actively contribute to continuous process improvement.  Participate in training and continuous learning opportunities; meet training and/or certification requirements of the job, department, product or area as designated/defined in work instructions and quality standards.

Education/Experience:  


High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and minimum of one (1) year of experience working directly in the industry; or any combination of education and experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The ability to be precise and focused, follow and understand complex machinery, and diagnose problems is essential to this job. The hands and fingers are used extensively to manipulate controls of equipment, machinery, turn valves/dials/knobs, check material, and enter data into a computer and other related tasks.


Normal or corrected vision to enable the associate to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) is necessary in this job.  The associate must be able to read and understand specification/recipe and/or schedules, and read, understand and respond to information displayed on computer consoles.  


This job requires that the person be able to independently lift or exert the amount of force or weight within the frequency specified below:  


It is customary in this job to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently to move objects.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud due to the operation of industrial equipment and machinery. 


Night and weekend shifts are common in several locations to maintain operations of 24 hours a day. A rotating schedule of shifts may be implemented, so operators do not consistently work weekends. 


 This job will be performed under the environmental factors given below: 


The primary work location for this job in the manufacturing area and may or may not be climate controlled.  This job is performed while standing most of the time. It entails walking, pulling, pushing, reaching, bending, crouching or kneeling, while maintaining a production rate or pace which can cause stress and strain to the arms and upper body, Associates may be required to go to/work in areas where the operation of industrial machinery creates noise sufficient to be distracting. Work may also require associates to be exposed to machines operating at high speeds, or with exposed and rotating gears/parts. Associates in this job work with certain chemical compounds. Although they do not handle the chemicals directly, the work is performed in an area where there is potential for exposure, spills or leakage. 


The work environment characteristics described above necessitates the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): (list prescribed PPE here). The associate must wear the prescribed personal protective equipment at all times while performing the duties of this job.  The associate is required to wear the appropriate PPE when in designated areas or when using tools, operating machinery and/or handling materials with specific PPE requirements.
