The Director, Admissions for the Phillip & Patricia Frost School of Music reports directly to the Dean and leads the School's admissions and recruitment efforts. The director oversees both the undergraduate and graduate recruitment, selection, and admissions process for Frost School of Music. The director leads and implements goals for recruitment and admissions as well as develops admission policies and procedures to further the goals and objectives of the university and school. The director is also responsible for developing a cohesive admission and recruitment strategy in consultation with faculty and other administrators for the school.



Specific Responsibilities:



  • Oversees and directs all aspects of the undergraduate and graduate student admissions process, including managing undergraduate decision committee and graduate admission clearance.

  • Develops a strategic recruiting plan to increase the quantity and quality of applicants in each respective program, as well as potential markets for program expansion.

  • Defines guidelines and criteria for student admissions.

  • Administers the preparation of all internal and external student admissions reports, as well as coordinates applicant data collection.

  • Assures the integrity of the Frost admissions databases.

  • Recommends and manages departmental budget for the Admissions Office.

  • Assesses market trends and conducts external benchmarking.

  • Identifies ways to improve and streamline the recruiting and admissions processes.

  • Analyzes and interprets data for internal use and ensure departmental goals are being achieved.

  • Works with other departments to ensure that marketing strategies and campaigns align with recruitment needs.

  • Establishes and assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

  • Oversees the audition/interview/portfolio review process for all undergraduate and graduate applicants to the school.

  • Serves on the scholarship committee along with the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies and meets with faculty in determining merit-based scholarships.

  • Collaborates with the University Graduate School to ensure graduate admissions to the Frost School follow university guidelines and meets the Frost goals and standards.

  • Liaises with the University Undergraduate Office of Admissions to assure goals, processes, and recruitment strategies align with the university and Frost needs.

  • Manages and plans extensive college fair, high school visits, music conventions, and conferences schedule for recruitment purposes.

  • Participates in generating specialized program ideas for recruitment purposes and the planning of such programs (such as the Super Teachers event).

  • Serves as a member of the Executive Council for the Frost School.

  • Coordinates the Frost School Student Council.

  • Other duties as assigned by Dean.




Skills & Abilities:



  • Knowledge of business and management principles.

  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.

  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.




Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field required. Master's Degree in relevant field preferred

  • Minimum 7 years of music admissions experience. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
