Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

The Senior Highway Project Engineer will be responsible for delivering planning and design documents, final design, and construction design support for multiple highway and roadway projects for Caltrans and several cities and counties. This position involves working with project managers to identify upcoming projects, develop pursuit strategies, and manage technical project delivery and coordination with subconsultants from the planning phase through environmental clearance, design, development of plans, specifications and estimates and design support during bidding and construction.

Essential Functions Include but are Not Limited to:


  • Support identification of upcoming projects and development of pursuit strategies, including Statement of Interest and Interview strategies on requests for proposals.

  • Assist with development of scopes of work, project budgets, and project schedules.

  • Work with project managers, staff and subconsultants to guide technical aspects of project delivery.

  • Assist project managers with presentations to the public and clients on projects.

  • Provide direction, guidance, and technical support to Project Engineers and Staff Engineers on complex problems and proposed designs.

  • Analyze information and data to perform routine and complex design tasks and make independent decisions on engineering problems and methods.

  • Represent the organization in meetings to resolve important questions, plan, and coordinate work.

  • Ensure accuracy of engineering design, plans, quality presentation, and conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.

  • Review design options and document findings from the design team.

  • Manage workload and changes in project schedule, scope, or additional services.

  • Communicate with clients and subconsultants for project delivery, lead the development of planning documents, highway design and computer modeling using AutoCAD Civil 3D, oversee computer aided drafting (CAD) using MicroStation, prepare reports, develop project plans, specifications, construction quantities and estimates, provide design support during construction, and prepare As-built records.

 

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program

  • Registration as a California Professional Engineer

  • 10 to 15+ years of increasing experience preparing Project Reports, roadway/highway Plans, Specifications and Estimates for Caltrans and or local agencies in California

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Good working knowledge of highway design standards contained in the Caltrans Highway Design Manual, CAMUTCD and applicable AASHTO publications

  • Experience with highway design and office software, such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Inroads, MicroStation, MS Word, Excel, etc. is required

  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in California, Colorado, or NY City, TranSystems is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to the State of California and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; internal peer equity; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At TranSystems, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $130,000 - $165,000 annually.
