Group Leader II at PPG INDUSTRIES INC in Monroeville, Pennsylvania

Job Description:

As a Group Leader in PPG's OLED business, you will be accountable for all Research and Development (R&D) activities. Your responsibilities include people management and project leadership, and customer-facing communication in OLED Process Development and commercialization of new products. You will oversee development project efforts and plan, direct, and coordinate experimental work to meet project goals and timelines. You will manage diverse technical activities ranging from process development activities, conceiving new approaches to OLED processes all the way to providing technical support and customer service for established commercial products! You will report to the OLED Research & Services Lead.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop processes for the target compounds that ensure safe and reproducible scaling in large-scale equipment.


• Develop alternate synthetic routes to target molecules, and modify reactants and/or equipment.


• Solve complex chemical problems which may arise in the group during process development, optimization or scale up of processes.


• Understand the concepts of reaction kinetics, design of experiments, solubility and crystallization, mass transfer, heat transfer and process safety.


• Oversee the work of scientists assigned, with managerial responsibilities.


• Maintain familiarity with the Chemical Hygiene Plan.


• Apply scientific principles for research programs involving product development, processing, manufacturing technology, and quality control.


• Maintain accurate records of all development projects.


• Master the use of modern research tools such as EasyMax, PolyBlock, Continuous Flow Reactors, and in-situ process monitoring.

Qualifications

• PhD in Organic Chemistry with 5+ years' experience or MS in Organic Chemistry with 8+ years' experience.


• 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in Synthetic Organic Chemistry in Fine Chemicals or APIs and their intermediates.


• Experience in Process Development and Scale-up of new chemical entities.


• Work within a team environment.


• 
  Travel Requirement: Based in Monroeville, PA. Travel required up to 20% of time, including internationally to UDC and PPG facilities.
