The Utility Supervisor reports to Production Manager. This person supervises and directs the operations of the quarry to meet raw material requirements for the production of cement. The Utility Supervisor is expected to coordinate with the Mining Engineer. This person will also supervise the mobile equipment shop.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop plans for short/long-term operating objectives including production, maintenance, budgets, and preparation of AFE's.
Direct the daily operations of the Quarry to meet raw materials requirements for the production of cement.
Supervise the maintenance of all Quarry mobile equipment.
Maintain/analyze mining records and monthly production performance to establish most efficient methods.
Manage raw material reserves at Quarry.
Provide safety training for all employees as required my MSHA.
Develop/train personnel and appraise performance.
Purchase supplies/maintenance items within optimum levels to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
Supervise personnel in all phases of the Quarry operation.
Other projects or assignments as directed by Maintenance Manager.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Related college degree preferred or equivalent years' experience in the mining industry
Six (6) years' experience in cement or related industry preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be able to exercise independent judgment
Knowledgeable of MSHA standards and requirements preferred
Possess excellent verbal communication skills
Ability to direct, motivate, and coach activities of others
Ability to work with little or no supervision
Must be a team player
Task and project oriented
Ability to work with all levels of management
Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language.
Drilling/explosives use and planning experience.
Open pit mining methods and planning experience
Knowledge of heavy mining equipment
Knowledge of crushers, feeders, and storage equipment
Knowledge of all types of mobile equipment
Knowledge of surveying equipment and related math
Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility.
Must have good communications skills using a two-way radio
Must keep safety above all else
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Lift up to 30 pounds
Visual acuity, speech & hearing, hand & eye coordination
Walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, driving, and squatting to perform the essential functions of this production labor position
Must use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required
Must be able to climb stairs and ladders
Must have good hand/eye coordination and vision to safely operate equipment
Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions
Pass required physical examination and drug screens
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in all weather conditions including heat, cold, ice, rain and in high humidity and is required to work in all plant environments.Incumbent will be exposed to vibrating equipment and mechanical and electrical hazards and heights.. May have exposure to dust, cement, clay, gypsum, sand, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, various fuels, etc. (See MSDS's)
