Systems Engineer Intern

Position Summary

Thales is looking for a Systems Engineer Intern who will be part of Thales Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Digital Aviation Solutions (DAS) engineering team located in Arlington, VA, which is focused on addressing the needs of the aviation industry’s push to integrate unmanned aircraft systems into the national airspace system.  The Systems Engineer will work with Project Design Authorities (PDA), UAS Operations, and Integration, Validation, Verification, and Quality (IVVQ) teams to support varying project execution and data analysis tasks, to enable the safe and efficient integration of drones into our airspace and our communities.

In this position, you will support projects within the Drone-as-a-Service (DaaS) segment of the Thales AMS DAS business and will report directly to the Engineering Manager. The duration of the internship opportunity will be from 15-April-2024 through 27-September-2024.

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Apply data science & analytics using Thales Cloud analytics platform to explore ATC/UAM related innovation topics.


• Support capture teams in developing and demonstrating concepts and tools in preparation for various proposals.


• Support the Engineering staff during system design reviews by collecting / presenting necessary data when needed, capturing design decisions, generating minutes of the meeting (MoM), maintaining an action item registry, and assist in writing standard operating procedures (SOPs) when needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Systems, Electrical or information Engineering. Applicable IT certifications, cybersecurity certifications, or military experience is also acceptable.


• Good understanding of computer systems, including basic Windows and Linux administration. Working knowledge of data analysis methods and tools including either MATLAB or Python.


• Experience working in a fast-paced team environment. Excellent communication skills.


• Good organizational and time management skills. Sense of quality and attention to detail. Disciplined and a systematic thinker.


• Must be a US Person as defined in applicable law
