Carlisle Weatherproofing Technologies (CWT) is a leading supplier of building envelope solutions that effectively drive energy efficiency and sustainability in commercial and residential applications. We are looking for a Innovation Laboratory Technician to join our team in our Kimberton, PA and Wilmington, DE locations.

Note: This position will be based out of our Kimberton, PA Facility, reporting directly to the Innovation Manager, however, for the first six months (approximately), this position will be assigned to a critical new project that requires daily attendance at a remote R&D facility in Northern Delaware. On occasion, there could be travel, not exceeding 20%.

The Innovation lab technician supports an interdisciplinary team of innovators. We are looking for a creative problem solver, who has excellent record keeping skills, has an eye for detail, and enjoys working as part of a dynamic team. The Innovation Lab Technician will play a critical role in executing projects that are critical to CWT's innovation strategy. Initial work will be focused on wet chemistry, but can also involve fast prototyping, concept testing and documentation of results.

This individual is expected to contribute ideas, execute research plans and document results.

In addition to fulfilling job requirements listed below, the Innovation Lab Technician is expected to have skills, knowledge and experience working with wet chemistry and, polymer and coatings R&D tests and test equipment. A "can do" attitude to actively seek out ways to solve problems will be key to success. This position reports to the Innovation Manager, who might assign other tasks and responsibilities.

Primary Functions:

The Innovation laboratory technician will perform laboratory testing duties required to support Innovation's product development and technology scouting projects. The technician will perform wet chemistry, prototyping, laboratory testing and possibly assist in plant trials. Once training has been conducted on SOP's, test methods and/or equipment, the technician is expected to work independently with minimal supervision by the scientist or engineer who requested the work. The technician is responsible for good documentation of experiments and new test protocols. The technician is expected to work safely in a flexible, team environment during the performance of these duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe workplace
  • Demonstrate excellent record keeping and accountability
  • Lab formulation/ Mixing.
  • Mix and prepare samples based on new formulation designs.
  • Fast prototyping.
  • Mock up samples to test concepts aligned with knowledge gaps and learning plans.
  • Sample testing.
  • Execute test plans, including coordination with other departments to execute sample testing where appropriate.
  • Prepare samples and execute test plans in an organized and efficient manner, in accordance to safe lab practices.
  • Follow and develop detailed written protocols for safe operation of equipment.
  • Maintain lab equipment (routine maintenance, calibration etc)., and perform troubleshooting as required.
  • Report results.
  • Good documentation of lab procedures, observations and data.
  • Individual is responsible for reporting results, and meeting deadlines.
  • Communicate and work within R&D and cross-functionally
  • Continuous Learning.
  • Learn SOP's relevant to equipment for tests required to support innovation projects.
  • Participate in cross-training.
  • Call out additional topics for professional development
  • Voice ideas, concerns and solutions to teammates
  • Travel to attend trade conferences and participate in meetings as and when required. Up to 25% travel.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge:

Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • Required:
  • Minimum education level required - High school diploma or equivalent with postgraduate or industry coursework in mathematics, science, or computers. Understanding of statistical methods required
  • Minimum experience level required- 2+ years of experience working in a lab and/or semiworks environment.

  • Desired education level- College degree in Chemistry or similar degree with laboratory coursework
