The Executive Director of Training and Development is accountable for the development, implementation and active management of training strategies, plans and processes to support organizational goals. The Executive Director is responsible for training programs involving customer-facing roles within the Commercial organization. This includes: launch readiness, new hire training, advanced and recurrent training, management training as well as additional development programs based on the needs of the organization. This position plays a key role in the design, development and implementation of all sales force effectiveness training programs that directly support the strategic and operational objectives of the Commercial organization. This individual will collaborate with various internal and external business partners to establish learning and development processes that include comprehensive and continual assessment of stakeholder needs (learning tools and resources/program/technology/metrics).
Roles & Responsibilities
Accountable for the development, execution and sustainment of training in support of all product launches
Develop and maintain a highly-relevant, goal-oriented strategic training plan
Instrumental in the development of first line leader and sales representative competencies
Collaborate with executive and senior stakeholders to ensure full alignment
Institute a training continuum for customer-facing roles, measure effectiveness and continuously improve
Deliver effective training during plan of action, launches and other strategic meetings
Responsible for improving the competency level via training of customer-facing roles
Continuously seek and support new approaches, practices and processes to improve the efficiency and efficacy of training services offered
Ensure appropriate training programs for online/remote delivery are available and are delivered through an easy to use, centralized on-line platform
Identify opportunities to build/enhance blended learning capabilities using technology, particularly virtual/mobile based applications and other digital platforms
Oversee monitoring of training programs and make decisions to enhance programs over time
Create and utilize feedback tools to assess impact of training programs and capability development to provide a framework for continuous improvement
Adhere to adult learning principles and sound training design
Enable effective delivery of training taking into account: product, disease state, market access, etc.
Establish processes that enable timely and actionable performance feedback of trainees
Manage and develop all members of the Training and Development Team
Lead and participate in highly visible, cross-functional initiatives
Build trust and credibility with business partners through regular interaction that is evidenced by feedback and proven working partnerships
Has product and market expertise for all promoted products
Is proficient and certified in selling and coaching models used throughout the commercial organization
Effective budget management and resource utilization
Effectively manages vendors and agencies, and hold them accountable to SOWs and commitments
Education & Licenses and Experience
Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 15 years of industry experience and or equivalent combination.

Demonstrated leadership, with the ability to lead teams, influence peers and senior leadership
Strong knowledge and experience of the end-to-end learning process, i.e., learning needs assessment, program design and delivery, and learning evaluation and assessment
Proven ability to interpret customer needs and translate these into a coherent program of work
Experience planning and supporting product launches and the associated learning requirements
Track record of exceptional project management skills and expertise across medium to large-scale projects
Experience leading “development” initiatives, i.e., training, coaching, learning initiatives
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with the need to manage constant change
Flexibility to deal with ambiguity – ready to change gears and plans quickly
Strong judge of talent with the ability to make tough decisions
Business acumen with a comprehensive understanding of the biopharmaceutical industry
Strong understanding of training technologies and their optimal uses
