Job Description:

The Director of Tax will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of tax planning, compliance, and reporting for South Mill Champs and its subsidiaries. This position requires a strong understanding of tax laws and regulations, as well as the ability to develop and implement tax strategies that align with the company's goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in corporate taxation, preferably within the food industry (but not required), and possess excellent leadership, management and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize the company's tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring accuracy and timeliness by outside tax consultants.
  • Manage tax planning initiatives, including research and analysis of tax implications for business transactions, investments, and restructuring activities.
  • Identify and implement cross-border tax optimization strategies and planning.
  • Stay abreast of changes in tax laws and regulations that may impact the company and advise senior management on potential implications and opportunities.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to support the annual audit process and resolve any tax-related issues or inquiries.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, and operations, to provide tax guidance and support for business initiatives and projects.
  • Manage relationships with tax authorities and oversee the resolution of any tax audits or disputes.
  • Implement and maintain tax accounting policies and procedures in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant standards.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on tax-related matters, including risks, opportunities, and compliance status.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; Master's Degree in Taxation or CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in corporate taxation, with a focus on tax planning, compliance, and reporting.
  • Extensive experience in US federal and state, and Canadian federal and provincial corporate tax matters and rules.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax issues and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities, with a proven track record of building and developing relationships with outside parties and internal teams.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in tax software and ERP systems, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
