Position Summary: We're seeking a skilled individual to join our team as a Field Technician, responsible for the installation, maintenance, and monitoring of network equipment and services. In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in ensuring smooth network operations, handling a diverse range of equipment including Cisco SONET Nodes, ADTRAN Multiplexers, Routers, Switches, NID's, Performance Technologies STP's, MetaSwitch switching platforms, and ADVA DWDM systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Efficiently diagnose, analyze, and resolve network issues, demonstrating adept problem-solving skills with minimal supervision.
Lead and execute new customer installations for both wholesale and enterprise clients, encompassing structured wiring, NID installations, and configuring plug-in cards and jumpers at network sites.
Maintain comprehensive documentation of network infrastructure through site audits and inventory databases management.
Conduct installation, testing, and acceptance procedures for integrating new nodes and collocations into the network.
Provide critical support for emergency restoration scenarios involving aerial and buried fiber optic cable and network equipment.
Ensure upkeep of client-owned shelters and promptly report any leased property violations.
Offer round-the-clock network coverage, including managing trouble tickets and alarm monitoring at a first-tier level.
Qualifications and Skills: Essential:
3 to 5 years of experience in a telecommunications environment or equivalent technical training.
Proficiency in DS3/DS1 installation and maintenance, as well as SONET/DWDM installation and maintenance.
Strong understanding of IP/MPLS fundamentals.
Demonstrated expertise in utilizing test equipment such as OTDR, OSA, DS1/3, and Ethernet.
Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessitated by job demands.
Possession of a valid state driver's license with a clean driving record.
Self-motivated with the ability to make informed decisions independently.
Desired:
College or technical degree, or equivalent education.
Certifications from Cisco or Alcatel Lucent in IP.
Experience in VOIP switching and maintenance, as well as fiber optics splicing and maintenance.
Prior exposure to telecommunications equipment installation.
