The University of Chicago's Department of Pathology is searching for a full-time faculty member at the rank of assistant professor to serve as the Assistant Director of the Transplant Immunology and Immunogenetics Laboratory Section. The appointee will work with the laboratory director, administrative director and manager, as well technical teams to facilitate laboratory testing (e.g., troubleshooting of unexpected results); review molecular typing, antibody testing, and cross-matching results; create reports and evaluate pre-transplant and post-transplant recipient immunological risk. The Assistant Director will participate in consultation with physicians, clinical transplant meetings, and clinical consultation with the on-call team; test validations; QA and QC processes and procedures; and, among others, updates of standard operating procedures and policies.


Other duties will include teaching and supervision of trainees and students, and scholarly activity. Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent upon qualifications.


The Transplant Immunology and Immunogenetics Laboratory Section serves both the solid organ (renal, pancreas, liver, heart, and lung) as well as the hematopoietic cell transplant programs. This Laboratory is accredited by ASHI and CAP. The Transplant Immunology Laboratory Section at the University of Chicago, under the director of Dr. Susana G. Marino, holds an ASHI-Approved Fellowship Program in Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics.


Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or PhD, 2) if MD, hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois and Indiana 3) have completed a Transplant Immunology and Immunogenetics fellowship, and 4) be Board certified or eligible by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI).


We especially welcome applicants with solid experience in donor selection; proficiency in troubleshooting in all areas of testing (next-generation sequencing, other molecular methods, antibody, and crossmatching); strong translational research interest; and relevant publications in histocompatibility, immunogenetics, and/or immunology.
