Role Overview: We seek an Accounting Supervisor to lead our financial operations in the niche A&H insurance domain. This is a unique opportunity for a strategic and analytical professional to drive accuracy, compliance, and growth within our accounting department. As the captain of our accounting ship, you will manage a dedicated team, oversee complex financial reporting, collaborate closely with stakeholders, and contribute to product innovation.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team responsible for General Ledger journals, month-end closing, and other critical STAT accounting functions.
- Manage workflow to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, adhering to industry-specific regulations.
- Collaborate closely with our carrier, SGIC, and third-party administrator (TPA), Premier Administrative Solutions, for seamless financial operations.
- Oversee the preparation of annual, quarterly, and monthly financial statements, including statutory and closing of blanks reports.
- Navigate the intricate landscape of Limited Medical, Short Term Medical, and indemnity products, ensuring adherence to state regulations.
- Conduct insightful analysis of Loss ratios, Attrition/Persistency schedules, and IBNR for data-driven financial decisions.
- Leverage NAIC experience to ensure compliance with reporting requirements and regulations.
- Spearhead Health Blank Form preparation for statutory reporting.
- Identify and champion growth opportunities within the accounting department.
- Collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional teams and potentially contribute insights to product development.
- Perform statistical analyses to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes, and provide Executive Summaries explaining findings.
- Manage Cash Management and audit contracts, orders, and vouchers.
Qualifications and Experience: • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. • 3-5 years of Statutory Accounting experience (STAT). • 10 years of GAAP month-end close experience, with specialization in the insurance industry, particularly A&H preferred. • In-depth knowledge of P&C or Health Blank Form preparation and analytical processes. • Experience with financial software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, FSI Oasis), premium tax tools, and reporting platforms. • Skills in IBNR calculations, Loss ratios, Attrition/Persistency schedules, etc. • Familiarity with NAIC reporting requirements and experience interfacing with the Department of Insurance (DOI). • Proven ability to manage workflow and meet critical deadlines. • Impeccable analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
