ELS is hiring for the position of Sr Tax Manager in Chicago, Illinois.

Job Summary

The Income Senior Tax Manager is part of the team responsible for planning and managing the preparation of the Equity Lifestyle Properties' federal and state income tax returns. Technical skills, team collaboration and attention to detail will be integral to the role. This position will review and manage the work of income tax employees, as well as develop and implement income tax policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of REIT qualification issues and experience in conducting REIT testing and managing the compliance process.
  • Manage and review the preparation of US income tax returns, related work products, and the domestic portions of the tax provisions for accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform research of relevant tax laws, regulations and rulings to determine proper tax return filing positions.
  • Build audit files to support all issues related to US income tax positions and filings.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the corporate income tax return processes and delivery schedule, and work with cross-functional teams to implement changes.
  • Proactively recommend changes in tax procedures, tax methodology and/or tax calculations to tax teams.
  • Partner with tax planning function to provide support and development of strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with other tax groups, business partners and external advisors to evaluate proposed transactions and investments, with focus on federal income tax implications.
  • Monitor tax legislation and provide advice on tax issues including research of applicable tax laws in order to resolve complex tax issues and develop best practices for the team to implement.
  • Develop staff by explaining complex tax concepts and procedures including documentation and presentation requirements, businesses transactions, and tax minimization and audit defense strategy.

Experience

  • The successful candidate is a strong communicator with demonstrated technical skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Master's degree in tax preferred.
  • 8+ years' relevant experience working with income tax filings, audits, and planning.
  • Strong knowledge of US partnership and corporate income tax law and regulations as well as accounting for income and corporate tax.
  • Excellent Excel and technology skills.
  • Management and training experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong leadership skills.
