Parish Director of Evangelization and Faith Formation
The Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph - St. Teresa of Avila Parish in the Diocese of Brooklyn, New York is seeking a committed practicing Catholic who is mission-driven, creative and able to work effectively in a dynamic urban environment.
Primary Objective:
Provide effective leadership, organization, structure, and direction to evangelization initiatives and to comprehensive faith formation and youth ministry efforts of the parish community. To foster life-long learning and the spiritual growth of parishioners.
Main areas of responsibility: • Administer a coordinated approach towards faith formation. • Implement and administer a family-based faith formation program. • Oversee sacramental formation including:
- preparing children for First Penance, First Communion, and Confirmation. • Direct the Youth Ministry program. • Lead initiatives for Young Adults. • Coordinate OCIA in English and Spanish. • Maintain Safe Environment and background check information for all catechists and all volunteers who work with minors. • Assesses the formational needs of the faith community. • Evaluate, design/select, and implement the appropriate faith formation curriculums which support lifelong faith formation and meet the needs of the faith community. • Promote and make available retreats, conferences, mission/work projects, and diocesan events. • Fulfill all diocesan requirements regarding faith formation and youth ministry programs. • Participate in staff and Parish Council meetings as well as Diocesan workshops and conferences. • Assist and empower parishioners to be effective evangelizers and disciple-makers. • Communicate with participants, parents, parish-at-large to keep them informed of evangelization initiatives and faith formation efforts. • Ensure greater participation of youth and young adults in parish life by participating in the planning and execution of major parish events and outreach initiatives.
Key Requirements: • Active practicing Catholic in good standing. • Must have a broad understanding of and ability to articulate Church teaching regarding evangelization, catechesis, prayer, sacraments, and ecclesiology. • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion. • Flexible and open to work with others in a collaborative team environment. • Strong leadership, communication, and people skills. • Ability to teach, speak, read, write, and translate in English and Spanish. • Self-motivated, creative, and engaging. • Bachelor's Degree required. Master's degree in theology, Pastoral Studies, Religious Education or equivalent preferred. • Minimum 3 years of experience working in faith formation/religious education and/or teaching. • Proficient in computer skills. Highly organized.
Position Type:
Full-time. Work hours/days are subject to the demands of the position and will include weekends and evenings.
