Company in business for over 100 years is seeking a materials scientist with expertise in metals and failure analysis. This position will receive guidance and training from a 30-year industry veteran and there is a lot of tenure in the organization.
This position is responsible for supervising, prioritizing and managing test development, materials development, personnel, equipment and tactical resources in the Metallurgical and Corrosion sections of the Chemical and Metallurgical Laboratory.
Coordinate, direct and manage all metallurgical test activities with Product Groups, Product Development, Process Development, Operations and Procurement for North America. Work with global peers in Europe, Asia and South America to coordinate testing to ensure analysis needs are met in all regions the company operates
Manage and administer all activities related to the development of materials, metallurgical concepts and new method development in SharePoint
Initiate and develop material and test specifications related to metallurgical issues
Develop and review test programs with requestors to insure best use of laboratory resources and delivery of actionable information. Devise & implement laboratory test strategies to efficiently determine causes and corrective actions for production problems and premature field/test failures
Write formal interpretive reports, directed to the company personnel with potential external distribution to customers and suppliers. Review and edit draft reports from lab staff
Recommend new equipment purchases and manage department assets. Maintain and update the plant charge system to allocate lab operating costs to the appropriate production facilities and/or corporate groups
Responsible for the lab safety policy and compliance with Corp. Health & Safety programs. Conduct monthly departmental safety inspections and safety meetings
Responsible for content of lab Quality Manual and overall lab quality practices to ensure compliance ISO/QS9000 requirements. Review and publish lab procedures, work instructions and manuals

Technical Qualifications:
BS degree required in material engineering with 5-10 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 3+ years of experience
5-10 years of materials engineering experience with a working understanding of all equipment and metallurgical concepts
Demonstrated ability to take theoretical constructs and apply them to real-world problem solving
Possess an understanding of laboratory information management systems
Possess a strong understanding of ISO/QS-9000
