Job Description:

Brunel is currently searching for a Principal Advisor of Engineering Studies for direct hire with our mining client located in Miami, Arizona.

In this role you will manage a team of Engineers and Project Managers with various technical backgrounds to complete medium to large scale projects for Operational Improvements on an active mine site. This project portfolio will consist of projects at various stages of maturity from scoping study complete to feasibility study complete. You will be responsible for continuing project development through detailed engineering, procurement, managing construction and commissioning efforts as needed. You will work directly with stakeholders, technical advisors, directors and third party subject matter experts to progress each project. You will be responsible for finding synergies amongst projects, ensuring there are adequate business reviews across projects to reduce rework and waste, develop financial analysis, reporting on project progression, making recommendations at important states through design, identifying project risks and opportunities.

This position will have direct reports consisting of Project Managers and Project Engineers as well as managing outside consultants. 80% of your time will be in office, 20% in the field.

Duties:
  • Exemplify company values in all efforts and interactions while working in compliance with all MSHA safety guidelines and company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the services providers selected for the studies adopt state and federal level compliance, code updates and timeline requirements if applicable.
  • Ensure the technical designs are economically considered as well as constructable by standard industry means and methods.
  • Manage and ensure that all employees and contractors are certified to execute the tasks/jobs they are assigned.
  • Perform bid walks with contractors, help to analyze bids, and provide recommendations for bid awards.
  • Prepare and review change orders, including time extensions, with the appropriate personnel prior to project being completed, ensuring the contractual agreement is being met by all parties in addition to maintaining a good business relationship with the service providers.
  • Develop AFE's by providing written justifications and financial analysis to support recommended course of action.
  • Document engineering plans via CAD programs and specification documents. Help produce documents for competitive bidding process and execution. Conduct project bid meetings with procurement.
  • Provide project management and engineering support for capital projects as assigned.
  • Provide oversight of engineering efforts of assigned projects. Conduct regular updates on project status compared to schedule and provide direction accordingly. Monitor engineering work performed to ensure adherence to design and specification and provide direct and written feedback to contractors. This includes quality control and quality assurance technical responsibilities.
  • Maintain and expand the engineering document control system. This includes working with the senior drafter on organizing new documents into the system, maintaining proper editing permissions, and supporting the use of all functions within the system. Maintain condition of physical files and document integrity.
  • Support modification of the existing and new documents to current or as-built status via CAD and PDF editors. Support internal and external personnel in searching for documentation. Support standardization efforts of internal and external drawings and documentation.
  • Provide verbal and written updates on project status to supervisor and plant leadership.
  • Support development of the annual budget and updates by obtaining proposals for projects in a timely fashion that supports the annual forecast.
  • Develop department/companywide continuous improvements to enhance the relations within.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Masters preferred
  • PE Certification preferred
  • PMP Certification preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience managing engineering and construction projects required; preferred experience in mining or similar heavy construction activities
  • Minimum 3 years' experience managing and supervising a project team
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to positively interact with and oversee many different disciplines and skills
  • Extensive experience with MS Office, SAP and technical writing
  • Advanced knowledge of MSHA, OSHA, IBC and Engineering Studies
  • Thorough and well-rounded knowledge of the mining industry
  • Ability to read and understand multi-disciplined construction drawings
  • Scheduling: Gantt, Excel, Resource Leveling, Multi-level Gantt
  • Excellent command of the English language both written and oral
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. for any employer
