Job Description:

Position Summary
The Histology Supervisor is a leader in Natera's lab operations whose role is to oversee employees' performance and serve as a liaison between employees and senior management to meet company goals and quality objectives. The supervisor is responsible for daily supervision of lab staff in the histology department. Duties include but are not limited to coaching, motivating, staffing, evaluating, and training staff. The supervisor works closely with the manager to ensure company and team goals are met.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Supervises the day-to-day operations of the Histology department by providing direct supervision to HT/HTLs and lab assistants
  • Monitors the daily workflow and preparation of FFPE samples to be tested via molecular techniques and ensures adequate daily staffing to meet production volumes
  • Ensure production work is consistently completed according to department goals
  • Assist in hiring and training department personnel
  • Ensure all case samples are processed and accounted for
  • Monitors team members to ensure adherence to SOPs and safety procedures
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and service level improvements
  • Ensures all equipment is being properly maintained through Quality Control
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency requirements through documentation, audits, and corrective action
  • Document nonconformance's and all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the established performance specifications as needed.
  • Assists managers in initiating and completing CAPAs.
  • Handles employee issues. Collaborates with Manager and/or Human Resources to resolve issues.
  • Ensures alignment with team for reasoning behind instructions/processes, and changes
  • Meets regularly with individual team members to discuss goals, progress, and provide coaching and feedback for their development
  • Responsible for staff performance reviews.
  • Plans and leads shift meetings
  • Maintains team morale and professionalism of team members
  • Administers, maintains, and adheres to policies, procedures, and Departmental Expectations
  • Go-to person when manager is not present
  • Perform bench work as needed and maintain proficiency/competency in technical operations
  • Approves timecards and PTO requests
  • Escalates lab issues and team concerns to manager. Communicates the problem and suggests possible solutions
  • Understands the entire histology process and interactions with the LIS system and can identify and troubleshoot issues when they arise; provides recommendations on how to proceed to lab director, pathologists, scientists and statisticians as necessary
  • Actively interacts with interdepartmental teams such as OPS, Accessioning, Engineering, Stats, R&D, and Support
  • Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals
  • Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance
  • This role works with PHI on a regular basis both in paper and electronic form and have access to various technologies to access PHI (paper and electronic) in order to perform the job
  • Employee must complete training relating to HIPAA/PHI privacy, General Policies and Procedure Compliance training and security training as soon as possible but not later than the first 30 days of hire.
  • Ensures timely completion of other training assignments assigned in the EDMS
  • Ensures timely completion of continuing education units
  • Employee must pass post offer criminal background check.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree or higher required in medical laboratory sciences in histopathology or equivalent. Bachelor degree preferred.
  • HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) required.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of industry related experience preferred
  • A minimum of 1+ years of relevant leadership experience and/or effectively managing a team preferred
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; both written and verbal
  • High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills
  • Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP and relevant state regulations
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite

The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
