This is work assessing and collecting fees for solid waste disposal. Work primarily involves operating a computer and computerized scales in order to weigh garbage and to determine disposal fee.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Conduct waste screening and inspections: inspects loads for prohibited or hazardous materials; directs customers to the appropriate discharge area and answers general landfill operation questions or concerns they might have; schedules and checks off special waste deliveries; and distributes landfill policies, procedures, and audit guidelines.
Maintains the computerized scale system: generates scale tickets: operates computer scale system; generates reports of transactions for Finance and supervisor; generates scale tickets for incoming and outgoing material; diagnose computer system problems and makes corrections; updates records (account files, truck files, addresses, contacts, phone numbers); and generates a floppy disc of transactions so that administrative associate can update her/his records.
Controls financial transactions: assesses fees based on weight; receives and distributes change to customers, receives money and distributes coupon books, counts monies for correct balances, and handles credit card transactions.
Provides manpower support/fill-in. Serves as temporary back-up to rural collection site attendants, service workers, and heavy equipment operators and assists in answering and screening division phone calls.
Monitors County radio frequency and provides scale house maintenance support: monitors, receives, and dispatches County radio messages and maintains scale facilities by sweeping and by cleaning work area.

The position adheres to established guidelines, policies, and operating procedures.
RESPONSIBILITY: Supervision Received Duties are fairly specific and checked frequently by supervisor. Guidance is sought concerning problems with customers or users.
Supervision of Others This position is non-supervisory.
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CUSTOMER CONTACT Contact is made with staff concerning radio and telephone calls. Contact is made with various agencies concerning account information.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Primarily, the employee must be able to operate a computer, weighmaster, credit card machine, adding machine or basic calculator.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work environmental factors include working primarily in doors at a desk in front of a computer terminal. When position serves in the absence of others exposure to various weather conditions, insects, and animals may occur. Physical Demands include climbing, stooping, reaching, and lifting up to 20 pounds, et cetera.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Requires a high school diploma or an equivalent or one year of clerical, customer contact, or related work experience.

All Leon County employees (regular full-time and part-time, OPS, and PRN) are required to work before, during and after a Declared Local State of Emergency (DLSOE). Participation is considered a condition of employment.
