Job Description:

Organization: Building Decarbonization Coalition

Role: Senior Manager, Workforce Development

Reports To: Director of Market Transformation

Classification: Full-time, Exempt

Location: Remote;based anywhere in the US

ABOUT THE COALITION

?The Building Decarbonization Coalition (BDC) unites building industry stakeholders with energy providers, environmental justice organizations, clean energy advocates, unions and workforce stakeholders, and state and local governments to help electrify homes and businesses.

Through coalition-building, consumer inspiration, and policy analysis, the BDC is pursuing fast, fair action to accelerate the adoption of heat pumps and other building electrification products and services, which will help states cut one of their largest sources of pollution while creating safe, healthy, and affordable communities.

POSITION SUMMARY

To the BDC, the transition to zero-emission homes and workplaces is an indispensable opportunity to bring a new generation of people into the skilled trades. Historic levels of investment in decarbonization, at all levels of government and from the private sector, can provide family-sustaining jobs and increase the prosperity of American communities-but only if a critical mass of stakeholders demand it.

BDC's Coalition includes hundreds of private, public, and nonprofit sector organizations that share a vision for building decarbonization that is smooth, expeditious, consumer-friendly, and economically beneficial for everybody. To reach that end state, policies, and regulations must reflect the needs of workers-their cost and regulatory pressures, their need to provide value to their customers, and the desire for more young people to enter the trades.

BDC is seeking a creative systems thinker, people-person, and subject matter expert in one or more building systems (e.g. HVAC, plumbing, or electrical) with a personal commitment to making sure that climate action leads to prosperity for American workers and their families. This is a new position that will eventually supervise one or more direct reports.

The Senior Manager will provide strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, coalition recruitment, meeting facilitation, and project management capabilities for the following:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

? Recruit and launch BDC's contractor steering committee, ensuring representation from diverse geographies and trades.

? Work to convene ideologically diverse stakeholders and facilitate challenging discussions in pursuit of a constructive, pro-decarbonization consensus.

? Negotiate, draft, and publish a regular progress report on decarbonization workforce development in the states, including policy and regulatory recommendations for states, with the input and assistance of the steering committee members.

? Facilitate steering subcommittees-starting in California and the Northeast, but potentially expanding to other regions-in collaboration with BDC colleagues and partners in those places, focusing on direct engagement with policymakers and coordination with major industry actors.

? Participate in state-level advocacy for neighborhood-scale building decarbonization alongside BDC colleagues and partners.

? Build and maintain relationships with organized labor and ensure that their interests are reflected and supported in BDC's programming.

? Interface with both mainstream media outlets and the trade press, in coordination with BDC's communications staff, to ensure that BDC's pro-worker decarbonization message is widely disseminated among workers, by workers.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

? Substantial subject matter knowledge regarding commercial and/or residential energy systems is required. Familiarity with utility business models or major electric grid or gas distribution system issues would be an asset.

? Strong familiarity with the needs of people in the trades, gained through work experience in the trades-e.g., as an HVAC installer, electrician, or plumber-or in an adjacent industry.

? Outstanding relationship management and coalition-building skills, including a genuine willingness to hear, consider, and account for divergent viewpoints.

? Desire to work within a participatory organizational culture that insists on the value of each team member's contribution without sacrificing decisiveness or agility.

? Demonstrated success in facilitating challenging discussions with and between diverging interests in pursuit of a high-stakes goal.

? Comfort with ambiguity, as BDC is a growing organization that is building innovative new initiatives in a complicated issue area.
