Role

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for all aspects of payroll processing including basic manual payroll processing from timecard calculations all the way through the GL accounting process. Responsibility will include bi-weekly payroll processing in a multi-state environment, processing of supplemental pay such as quarterly and annual bonuses, stock option exercises, research and resolve federal, state, and local tax notices. The Payroll Specialist will also assist in supporting the functions within Human Resources.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities


  • Provide professional service and support employees. Responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll for exempt and non-exempt personnel in a multi-state environment. Process all requests for manual payroll checks verifying all wages and deductions required, including processing stop payments on lost paychecks and reissuing checks. Process garnishment, levy and support orders in UltiPro to include verification of accurate calculations and any necessary communication to the employees. Audit and balance payroll prior to posting. Ensure proper documentation is present/retained. Processes reports to analyze payroll data for integrity. Maintains SOX compliance.

  • Assist employees with questions about their wages, taxes and/or deductions maintaining state and federal compliance.

  • Collaborate and maintain relationships with multiple vendors to reconcile monthly billing.

  • Provide support to Human Resources on topics related to benefits, payroll, time and attendance, record keeping and HR & Bank policies and procedures.

  • Prepare recurring and ad-hoc reports as needed.

  • Responsible for the maintenance of the Payroll Process in the Disaster Recovery Center.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

  • Must comply with current applicable laws, regulations and bank policies and procedures. Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.

Experience

Familiarity with automated payroll systems.

Education/Certifications/Licenses

A high school degree or equivalent.

Skills


  • Has a working knowledge of compensation, benefits and tax regulations concerning payroll. Is skilled in maintaining an organized payroll system, including lists of employee benefits. Payroll data must be entered accurately. Attention to detail is critical.

  • A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In-depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with employees and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance.
