KSCAC is a college access program aiming to support high school students in finding their best-fit postsecondary pathway. As part of the College Advising Corps network, KSCAC aims to increase the number of first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students who enter and complete higher education. We hire recent college graduates to serve as College Advisers full-time in high schools across the state of Kansas. Our College Advisers work closely with students to ensure that they are aware of all options, whether it be community college, four-year university, workforce, or military.
Serve as a College Adviser
College advisers complete up to a two-year service term, and gain invaluable leadership, work, and life skills that are necessary and transferable to any profession. Being an adviser is a transformative experience, contributing to a national movement to ensure all students have access to economic mobility and success.
College Advisers aim to help students find a "best-fit" post-secondary opportunity in order to increase the likelihood of post-secondary success in college or career. Additionally, advisers create and foster a college-going culture by engaging administration, teachers, and staff to help build an environment that encourages and supports college attendance and completion. The advisers are available to assist all students and families.
Day-to-day, College Advisers will report to their high school site placement in order to:
Advise students through individual, small group, and classroom settings
Provide guidance in all aspects of the college and career planning process
Review college applications with students
Host a variety of college planning and financial aid workshops
Facilitate campus tours
Assist with ACT preparation and registration
Ensure student participation in college exploration opportunities, such as college fairs, summer programs, and campus representative visits
