Post Doctoral Fellow for the University Partnership to Develop Equity-minded Educators (UH PDEE)

Description

Supported by funding from the US Department of Education Teacher Quality Partnership grant program

and in partnership with Houston Independent School District , the largest school district in Texas and the eighth largest school district in the United States. UH PDEE is a 30-hour, MEd - granting

certification program for initial Texas elementary (EC-6) Education, generalist teaching licensure and includes a one-year clinical field residency followed by two years of induction support . UH PDEE coursework emphasizes elementary mathematics teaching/learning coursework and learning experience s in conversational Spanish for Teachers to address the partnering school district's needs.

Residency models in teacher education are gaining attention in the field as a way to increase teacher retention and bolster efficacy. UH PDEE is supported by the National Center for Teacher Residencies (NCTR), an education research and consulting firm with over a decade of experience working to improve education dramatically for students via the design and implementation of a financially sustainable teacher residenc ies . Through this partnership, UH PDEE will become a new standard of residency design, leading to a reduction in teacher turnover rates and , ultimately, greater student success. In this teacher residency program , cohorts of future teachers will be supported through their residency and the .

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education, University of Houston (UH) seeks a qualified candidate to serve as a Postdoctoral Research Associate for the UH PDEE program. This is a four-year appointment with performance evaluated annually. T he UH PDEE post-doctoral research associate position is a full-time appointment in which they will provide research support, engage in curriculum and teaching, and learn about grant writing and management within UH PDEE alongside UH faculty mentors . In the context of this innovative teacher residency program, the research associate will have opportunities to collaborate with research partners, participate in field research activities, conduct data analysis, lead manuscripts and presentations, and develop grant proposals and research designs.

Essential duties include:

• Assist in research and evaluation projects within the UH PDEE program.

• Develop of new proposals , manuscripts and other program-related research /scholarship materials

• Participate in collaborative research, planning, and teaching activities • Mentor residents during teacher researcher capstone project

• Communicate research to a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including district and community partners

• W ork closely with Program Director and PIs to develop structures and systems for sustainability

  • Completed a doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Teaching and Teacher Education, or a Human Development -related field .
    ABD Candidates will be considered if degree conferred by December 2024 .
  • Experience with and understanding of how grant funding cycles .
  • Record of or evidence of potential for leading manuscript development
  • Experience with or openness to interdisciplinary and/or mixed methods research design and scholarship.
