The University of Houston College of Pharmacy invites qualified applicants to apply for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Translational Research located in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV). We are seeking outstanding individuals with a desire to train our students and advance our profession. The successful candidate will be involved in the transformation of our Pharm D. curriculum with increased emphasis on integrated and active learning in the areas of clinical pharmacy skills and inter-professional/experiential education.

The Department of Pharmacy Practice and Translational Research is made up of 37 full-time faculty members. The vision of the department is to be a leader in pharmacy and postgraduate education through excellence in translational, clinical and outcomes research. This will be a key position to grow our world-class faculty with strengths in cutting edge pharmacotherapy.

We will recruit for best applicants that have skills in the areas of internal medicine, critical care, infectious disease, ambulatory care, pediatrics, cardiology, emergency medicine, mental health, oncology, transplant or community practice. Applicants will be expected to develop a nationally recognized reputation in their chosen area of expertise through teaching, service, and scholarship. We welcome candidates whose experience in teaching, research, or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to excellence.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following, with other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean:

1. Maintain active patient care services at the UHCOP-RGV site.

2. Maintenance of introductory (IPPE) and advanced practice (APPE) experiences and post-graduate programs for the UHCOP-RGV program.

3. Establish quality experiential rotation(s) and serve as a preceptor for the UHCOP-RGV program.

4. Assist with development, supervision and maintenance of the facility's residency program.

5. Engage in individual and collaborative research at the UHCOP-RGV site and the College's partner institutions.

6. Teach in didactic and experiential courses as assigned.

7. Enforce policies and procedures regarding students involved in didactic and experiential courses.

8. Actively participate in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Translational Research; serve as a formal or informal leader.

9. Serve on appropriate College of Pharmacy committees to represent the UHCOP-RGV program.

10. Assist with representing the College of Pharmacy in local matters relating to the College of Pharmacy within the assigned region. Typical functions include representing the College of Pharmacy to external organizations, institutions and agencies, and plan and implement student and resident activities.

11. Assist in the recruitment of students and residents in the assigned region.

12. Actively participate in professional associations in the region, state, and nationally.

13. Ensure academic progression toward successful promotion.

The candidates should possess a Pharm.D. degree and have also completed post-doctoral graduate work, residency and/or fellowship training, or have equivalent experience. Experience in pharmacy education is preferred. Applicants must be eligible for Texas licensure. Other Qualifications / Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent written and verbal Spanish language skills are also preferred. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Demonstrated ethical behavior, professionalism, interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities. Knowledge of current professional trends in pharmacy, and general knowledge of current trends in the pharmacy practice as they relate to curricular aspects of the College.
