POLICE OFFICER

The Oswego Police Department intends to establish a Police Officer Eligibility List (Register) with candidates interested in growing with our community, who come from diverse backgrounds to strengthen our community-oriented approach to policing, and who are up to the challenge of approaching each day as an opportunity to do things better. Police Officers are responsible for enforcing all State and Local Laws and upholding the U.S. and Illinois Constitutions.

SALARY
The starting salary as of May 1, 2024 is $75,000. Those meeting lateral qualifications could start at $112,687.29, depending on years of experience, with a top out in 2026 of $126,237.73.

BENEFITS
Outstanding benefits package including 13 paid holidays annually, plus paid vacation, sick and personal time, that starts accruing immediately. Also, excellent medical (BCBS PPO or HMO), dental, vision, life insurance, police pension and more. We offer 12-hour shifts with every other weekend off, and no residency requirement. Uniforms/equipment are provided. Officers may workout on duty at our state-of-the-art facility, which includes an indoor range, fitness & mat room and more.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be under 35 years of age, at the time of application and at such time as the initial eligibility list is posted, unless exempt from such age limitation as provided in Section 5/10-2.1-6 of the Fire and Police Commissioners' Act
  • Must be at least 21 years of age as of June 8, 2024
  • Illinois FOID Card and Social Security Number at time of hire
  • Must be a United States Citizen and have a Valid Driver's License by June 8, 2024
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent by June 8, 2024
  • Pass written examination, oral interview, in-depth background investigation, which includes a polygraph.
  • After conditional job offer, must pass Medical (including drug screen, hearing and eye exam) and Psychological examinations
  • MUST HAVE A POWER CARD (NIPSTA, JJC, etc.) not older than one year at time of Orientation on June 8, 2024

NEXT STEP IN TESTING PROCESS ONCE APPLICATION & FEE IS SUBMITTED

  • MUST ATTEND MANDATORY ORIENTATION AND WRITTEN EXAMINATION, which will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 8:00 AM - Oswego East High School (Door #2), 1525 Harvey Road, Oswego, Illinois.
  • Applicants must have photo identification, which can be a State ID, Driver's License or Passport
  • Applicants MUST ALSO provide a POWER Card when checking in at Orientation
  • Dress comfortably for the orientation and written examination
