Senior Scientist, Assay Development and High-Throughput Screening (HTS)

 

Pfizer's BioMedicine Design (BMD) Assay Development group is seeking a highly motivated scientist with experience in liquid-handling automation to establish binding and functional assays to support hit-to-lead discovery of and antibody and mRNA therapeutics. The candidate will play a critical role in the design and execution of biochemical and of cell-based functional assay and high-throughput screening to support the BioMedicine Design portfolio. The candidate will be responsible for the design and execution of experiments using a variety of detection technologies including HTRF, ELISA/DELFIA, FACS, and cell-based functional assays focused on signaling, proliferation, or cytotoxicity. In addition, the candidate will analyze data, present results at internal meetings, and closely collaborate with project team members to develop strategies and identify lead molecules. What You Will Achieve

 

  • Develop assays to identify and characterize antibody and mRNA hits to support programs across multiple therapeutic areas. Biochemical assay formats include binding, competition and enzymatic cleavage assays. Cell based assays include binding, competition, cell signaling (NanoBiT, Ca2+ flux, cAMP, phospho-protein) and reporter gene assays using a variety of cell lines and primary immune cells.
  • Execute high-throughput screens using integrated automation platforms, including rapid data analysis and reporting of results.
  • Collaborate with project teams to establish screening strategies, interpret results, and make decisions to drive programs forward.
  • Write protocols, maintain ELN, and regularly review literature to m aintain knowledge of scientific trends and new technologies.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Must Have

 

  • Bachelor's degree with 9+ years of experience, or master's degree with 6+ years of experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology or a related discipline, along with a comprehensive understanding of biologics drug discovery workflows or PhD Degree
  • Demonstrated expertise in assay development and troubleshooting with methods such as HTRF, ELISA/DELFIA, FACS, and cell-based functional assays focused on signaling, proliferation, or cytotoxicity.
  • At least 6 years of industry experience in high-throughput screening and data analysis.
  • At least 6 years of experience with using laboratory automation, including writing and troubleshooting protocols.
  • Track record of strong problem solving and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

 

Nice to Have

 

  • Experience with Tecan and Beckman liquid handling platforms and Momentum scheduling software.
  • Experience with high content imaging and multiplex assay formats.
  • Experience with primary immune cells and multicolor FACS.
  • Experience with GeneData or other LIMs platforms, and with writing scripts to automate data processing.
  • Experience mentoring junior lab members.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $88,300.00 to $147,100.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
