What You Will Achieve

 

A Senior Scientist in Compound Management (ATCM) supporting High-Throughput Screening (HTS) within the Liquid Store plays an important role in the stewardship of the Pfizer compound collection specializing in Lab-Based Workflow Management, automation support, troubleshooting, data handling and material logistics to facilitate the transfer of compounds in our corporate collection in the proper format for screening. You will collaborate with the Primary Pharmacology Group (PPG), hit follow-up, lead optimization, External Research Solutions, Medicinal chemistry stakeholders, and Digital and data support to ensure timely, high-quality access to the Pfizer compound collection while providing expert follow up support especially when troubleshooting potential workflow related issues in your pursuit to identify root cause to make quality improvement corrections. As a senior member of the ATCM team, you will also have significant input in defining strategic plans to support future demands on compound management. This is a lab-based role which requires hands-on interactions with automated, liquid handling systems and an expert knowledge of our workflows and systems with the expectation to provide immediate assistance, education, and training and lab tours for colleagues, contractors, and visitors on an as needed basis. To accomplish this, the individual will operate unattended as well on teams to drive daily problem solving and process enhancements decisions by contributing impactful, innovative ideas against defined goals while partnering with our screening stakeholders, Digital (IT), Global Operations, and external vendors in line with our business goals. How You Will Achieve It

 

  • Contribute to achievement of immediate work group goals, collaborate with other team members, and reach out to external resources as needed.
  • Provide expert level of project management support spanning diverse disciplines and levels of complexity to support timing and decision making often with limited available information.
  • Satisfactorily completes safety training in conformance with requirements.
  • Develop customized solutions to address analysis, storage, and curation of data generated by various compound management systems.
  • Develop expert level knowledge in the operation and troubleshooting of lab automation to support screening campaigns by providing near and assay ready plates.
  • Develop expert level knowledge of all relative Liquid Store LIMS and associated software which directly impacts daily production needs and short and long-term project-specific goals based on detailed knowledge of our operational capabilities.
  • Collaborate with team members and partners to design and continuously improve workflows to increase capacity and throughput to ensure on-time delivery of requests.
  • Maintain the Pfizer compound collection and develop innovative solutions which contribute towards good compound stewardship.
  • Collaborate with the Pfizer Digital line to develop enterprise level solutions that address data analysis, storage, and curation, including the ability to mine data for insights that support decision making.
  • Interact and coordinate efforts with external vendors to drive workflows to support key, high-profile projects.
  • Provide daily technical subject-matter-expert expertise, troubleshooting assistance and guidance for projects and workflows to colleagues and internal stakeholders.
  • Participate on project teams as a key contributor by providing insight & expertise on laboratory automation & material logistics to solve issues of significant complexity and improve the efficiency of operations in Compound Management.
  • Produce high-quality and detailed documentation for implemented solutions, including workflow & data diagrams, description of requirements, use cases, design, tests, users guides & standard operating procedures (SoP).
  • Design and implement quality control experiments to evaluate hardware and software systems along with consumables and compound deliverables to drive innovation and continuously improve the efficiency and quality of deliverables to support screening campaigns.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction, innovation, daily decision-making, and operation of Compound Management, focusing on compound stewardship, efficiency, quality assurance and continuous improvement by effectively collaborating with other Compound Management teams, such as the Liquid Store, Sample Logistics, and Automation.
  • Identify and champion new ideas and technological strategies that will enable innovation, continuous improvement and capability enhancements in workflows and operations within Compound Management.
  • Present technological advancements & solutions internally to Compound Management stakeholders and externally to industry peers.
  • Mentor junior team members by modeling courage & excellence in your work and contributing to an environment of equity and joy that promotes active engagement & learning.

 

Qualifications

 

Must-Have

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology, Pharmacology, Chemistry, Computer Science, or a related field with 9+ years of relevant experience in developing laboratory solutions in the pharmaceutical industry OR Master's Degree with 6+ years of experience in developing laboratory solutions in the pharmaceutical industry OR PhD Degree
  • Demonstration of Project Management skills to monitor, oversee, and predict progress against goals with change agility to adapt to deviations required to handle unexpected risks and outcomes.
  • Demonstration of excellent computer, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with personal computers, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and relevant scientific software.
  • Experience with experimental design and the interpretation of results.
  • A commitment to timely delivery and quality of the work product
  • Demonstration of ability to work well with others on complex team projects.
  • Demonstration of ability to present and share own work efforts with group with a high level of transparency.
  • Demonstration of ability to clearly articulate and capture workflow requirements and document best practices and SoPs.

  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with stakeholders and external hardware & software vendors.

 

Nice-to-Have

 

  • Prior experience in pharmaceutical laboratory automation, specifically, in the operation of liquid handling systems, storage systems and other automated tube & plate handling instrumentation.
  • Prior experience working in areas of the early stages of drug discovery in compound management, pharmaceutical laboratory automation, and high throughput screening.
  • Experience with databases (Oracle/PostgreSQL), query languages (SQL/PLSQL), and software tools such as Pipeline Pilot, SQL, TOAD, Visual Basic, and Java.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data analysis platforms and architecture
  • Experience in developing integration with other applications via API such as RESTful APIs
  • Demonstration of verbal and written communication skills. Past oral and/or poster presentations at conferences or society meetings.
  • Demonstrated ability to forge strong collaborative relationships inside and outside organizational walls and across multiple cultures: academic, industrial, and CROs.
  • Expert knowledge in the operation and troubleshooting of liquid handling systems and other automated plate handling instruments.
  • Experience in working with multi-functional, cross line teams.

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Position will require working in the lab, operating automated equipment, lifting, sitting, standing, walking, bending and the ability to solve complex technical problems.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $88,300.00 to $147,100.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
