SCOPE OF ROLE


Reporting to the Supervisor, Patient Financial Services, the Patient Financial Representative helps patients resolve the patient responsibility portion of medical bills. You will be relied on to create a welcoming, professional and efficient experience for patients. The Patient Financial Representative will be successful in their role by creating an outstanding patient service experience by providing account resolution during in person and telephone encounters.


HOW YOU’LL SUCCEED:



  • Educate patients on the phone, in writing or in person regarding the billing process, insurance, and their financial obligation regarding payments, co-insurances, and co-pays.

  • Accurately complete patient registration and cash collection during in person and telephone patient interviews to obtain demographic, insurance, medical and financial information.

  • Review the explanation of benefits to determine insurance coverage, ensure all insurance coverage has been submitted.

  • Enroll and educate patients in financial assistance programs such as grants, sliding scale and self-pay options. This includes new patients and current patients with balances.

  • Make payment arrangements for patients; process adjustments as necessary.

  • Function as an outstanding subject matter expert.

  • Comply with all agency policies and procedures.

  • Maintain all aspects of HIPAA, promoting patient confidentiality and right to privacy.

  • May be required to perform remote services as determined by Signature Health.

  • Adherence and completion of compliance training provided by Signature Health.

  • Responsible for and completes all productivity/documentation requirements.

  • Participate in all assigned staff meetings and staff development programs.

  • Demonstrate appropriate attendance and punctuality in adherence with Signature Health policies.

  • Other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:



  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • 1-2 years’ of experience in a patient facing role in person or via phone in a medical setting required.

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

  • Basic PC software application knowledge and ability to use multiple data systems preferred.



    WORKING CONDITIONS:



    • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office/clinical work environment.

    • While hours of operation are generally standard, flexibility to work evenings and extended hours may be required.

    • Requires periods of sitting, standing, telephone, and computer work. 

    • Hearing: adequate to hear clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.

    • Speaking: adequate to speak to clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.

    • Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.

    • Physical effort required: occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 15 pounds, unassisted.

    • Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens while performing job duties.

    • Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular workday.

    • Sufficient dexterity to operate a PC and other office equipment.
