What to expect:


Martin Marietta is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join the Enterprise Engineering Services team and to provide world-class engineering, technical, and field support for the project management of capital projects throughout the enterprise.


This position will report to the Manager of Engineering, West Region, and will be responsible for engineering, oversight, and management of field construction of various capital projects for plant operations as well as rail and marine unloading facilities, along with downstream business units. The senior project engineer will collaborate with the engineering team to help conceptualize, plan, construct, and complete projects safely, on time, and on budget. The position also serves as a technical resource for capital projects, non-capital projects, and overall operational excellence initiatives across the enterprise.


A typical day for a Senior Project Engineer may include:




  • Supporting Martin Marietta's safety culture and regulatory compliance by adhering to and monitoring for compliance with the company's safety policies and procedures.

  • Leading project management of design and field construction, various aggregate plant improvements, new plant installations, process improvement projects, and other construction management projects involving aggregate handling and processing.

  • Creating conceptual drawings, job cost estimates, and bid packages along with managing and administering contracts.

  • Communicating with operations managers, senior division management and corporate managers on project status.

  • Analyzing the effects of various civil/mechanical improvements to an aggregate's operation.

  • Managing all capital funds spent on each project.

  • Performing all activities in accordance with the Company's Mission, Vision, and Values, and in compliance with the Company's policies, procedures, and Code of Ethical Business Conduct.

You may be a good fit if you:




  • Adhere to Martin Marietta, OSHA, and MSHA rules and regulations.

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in mining, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering; Professional Engineering license a plus; Surveying skills (level, Total Station, GPS) a plus.

  • Have Five + years of experience in mineral processing and/or aggregates, with primary experience in project management.

  • Have knowledge and experience with aggregate process equipment, including material handling systems, i.e., conveyors, screens, crushers, pumps and pumping systems, material washing systems, fine recovery systems, and water clarification.

  • Are innovative and knowledgeable in aggregate plant processing and are able to assess and submit various process improvements for our aggregate operations, or other business units.

  • Manage projects from small to large throughout the corporation, and some simultaneously, and track completion of projects on a regular basis without losing sight of the direction of the projects.

  • Have experience with installation and maintenance.

  • Have experience with Ready-Mix and Rail operations, though not required.

  • Read and understand detailed design drawings and provide oversight for steel fabrication and erection.

  • Have proficient computer skills.

  • Are self-motivated and able to work independently.

  • Are proficient in AutoCAD, and Microsoft products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.

  • Have experience with AggFlow (Aggregate Plant Simulation program) and Civil Design and software, i.e., Carlson, and Civil 3D etc.

  • Have experience with soil compaction and concrete testing.

  • Have effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Have excellent reporting skills.

  • Have strong project management process optimization, financial and analytical skills; project budget and schedule oversight experience.

  • Have experience managing design-build or EPC-style of large, complex capital construction projects is also highly desirable.

  • Have experience with the preparation of project scope documents, technical specifications, and RFQ packages related to construction projects.

  • Have the ability to travel 30 - 50% of the time.
