Position Summary:

The Institutional Services Assistant is responsible for general cleaning of areas in and around office buildings, class rooms, lecture halls, conference rooms, auditoriums, resident halls, dining areas, building common areas, and other areas as required. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Acts as group leader to lower-level custodial workers
• Cleans and shampoos carpets
• Strip floors of old wax, rewax and buff as needed
• Cleans areas requiring special cleaning methods, by use of specific cleansers, sterilized equipment, and/or disposing of contaminated wastes
• Maintains cleaning equipment and makes minor repairs
• Cleans walls, windows, and windowsills as needed
• Notifies supervisor of maintenance and repairs needed
• Ensures building security by watching for vandalism and patron safety
• Assists in room and audio visual set-ups
• Performs minor repairs on building equipment and furnishings as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques
Knowledge of cleaning equipment operation and maintenance

Ability to follow instructions and perform repetitive manual work
Ability to use cleansers and other agents to clean floors and furniture
Ability to use housekeeping cleaning supplies and equipment
Ability to work independently without close supervision
Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions
Ability to perform multiple tasks and to prioritize assignments
Ability to perform repetitive manual work
Ability to do required lifting (up to 50 lbs.)

General Days/Hours:

Sunday - Thursday
3:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a High School Diploma

Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or parts of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee
