The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is a national leader for teaching, research and innovation in the fundamental chemical and biochemical sciences that are helping shape America's future. The faculty of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a full time, professional-track position at the rank of Instructor to begin August 16, 2023. The position is a 9-month appointment. This is an annual appointment that may be renewed contingent upon Dean's approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.
The successful candidate will teach 4 chemistry courses per semester (8 courses total per 9-month appointment) or the equivalent in chemistry labs (10 per semester to include preparation and upkeep). This would include Organic Chemistry I and Organic Chemistry II or equivalent labs. If assigned labs, the instructor will also ensure that essential chemicals and the appropriate instrumentation are available during labs. The instructor will also provide support to other lecture or lab programs as necessary.
Candidates must have an MS in Chemistry with three (3) years of teaching experience to include organic chemistry and chemistry for non-science majors.
A Ph.D. in Chemistry is preferred, which must be received by the start date of the appointment.
