The Dual Credit Academic Pathways Specialist assists the assigned coordinator and provides academic advisement and student support services to the students, principals, and personnel within the Dual Credit Programs.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops and implements academic and programmatic workshop activities, scheduling and student support services for the Dual Credit Programs.
Builds a network with the principals and counselors that are assigned to promote the completion of dual courses.
Provides outreach to Dual Credit students that will cover information about articulated programs, career exploration and degree planning.
Develops and implements the academic advising process for Dual Credit students enrolling at the college; must be visible and available to students throughout the year.
Conducts process of advisement, which includes: selection of courses, degree planning, information on transferring South Texas College credits to colleges and universities, and assistance with academic issues such as study skills, test taking, and academic probation/suspension.
Reads, analyzes, and interprets higher education degree plans.
Assists Dual Credit students and high school staff with financial aid programs, college admission requirements, ACT and SAT registration, scholarship search opportunities, and various loan programs.
Provides information on college transition, graduation requirements, transfer opportunities, and college resources.
Communicates frequently and consistently with assigned Dual Credit high schools and schedules workshops and case management events accordingly.
Tracks and monitors students’ progress and attendance through several report methods.
Creates and maintains student academic files.
Develops and maintains collaborative partnerships with area school districts, colleges, universities, employers, community leaders, and service providers.
Promotes and recruits students to the Dual Credit Programs by conducting presentations at the high schools and other academic events.
Assists with coordinating and conducting college tours, as needed.
Attends and may present at local, state and national conferences and other events, as needed.
Assists the assigned coordinator in the creation of monthly reports for Dual Credit Academic Pathways programs, as requested.
Maintains knowledge of the College’s programs, policies, procedures, academic standards, admissions process, entrance tests, degree plans, and courses.
Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
Serves as Campus Security Authority.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required.
At least two (2) years of experience working with secondary and post-secondary academic institutions, preferred.
