The Counselor is to provide a confidential and inclusive process to serve a diverse student population. Increase student understanding of self and relationships in order to benefit from educational opportunities. The Counselor will also provide conscientious referral and support to community services based on individual needs, along with educational group opportunities to address barriers to student success

Counseling Interns as approved
Masters Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related field
LPC, LCSW or similar license.
Minimum 1 year experience in counseling services
Skills in active listening, negotiation, relational issues and crisis evaluation
Demonstrated positive human relations
Ability to coordinate with local community agencies
Cultural awareness and sensitivity
Previous involvement in cultural and diversity enrichment activities
Ability to adjust to ever changing, ever evolving work environment
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
Basic computer skills including MS Office suite
Flexibility to use various computer applications
1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to administration, faculty, staff, students, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.
This position requires the person to frequently operate a computer, other office machinery, and mobile devices to perform the essential functions of the position.
This position requires the person to frequently position self to access materials that may be above head or at ground level.
3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.
4. WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position performs the essential functions in an indoor, office setting.
Knowledge of Oklahoma community service agencies; particularly Central Oklahoma
3+ years in counseling services
Previous experience in post-secondary education
Bilingual
Required Annual health and safety trainings
Any other training required from HR or the College
Mostly regular 8:30 - 5:30 M-Th and 8-5 F with some exceptions

Provide and maintain a confidential system of casework management as appropriate to the requirements of the individual and for the purposes of statistics, documentation and reporting.
Develop and lead and/or collaborate with other departments to provide training sessions and workshops to enhance students' abilities to develop strategies to address issues of potential impediments or deterrents toward reaching their educational goals.
Develop and lead opportunities and initiatives for promotion of optimum mental health for students by initiating and/or utilizing prevention programs.
Provide individual and group counseling and referral services for a diverse student population.
Conduct intake interviews with person requesting services.
Coordinate and facilitate counseling groups.
Facilitate positive liaison, consultation, and referral with representatives of outside community agencies to support students.
Provide crisis intervention, in cooperation with law enforcement involving potentially dangerous or life threatening situations. Including connecting with community mental health agencies and hospitals.
Lead or collaborate on one or more programs designed to support students (i.e., Drug and Alcohol programming, single parent program, etc.)
Participate and help plan other programming as dictated by the College and/or student need.
Provide consultation with administrators, faculty, staff and students in relation to counseling issues and policies.
Advise and support the Director of Student Accessibility and Support and other members of the Student Accessibility and Support team.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.
Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC's established safety and health procedures and practices.
Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, shelter in place drills, and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
