Advertised Job Summary:

The Center for Oceans and Human Health and Climate Change Interactions (OHHC2I), funded by the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and headquartered at the University of South Carolina, is leading several lines of innovative research at the intersection of community engagement and the multidisciplinary field of Oceans and Human Health (OHH). The Center, specifically its Community Engagement Core (CEC), has also become involved in multiple state- and local-level, multi-stakeholder initiatives revolving around the development, refinement, and integration of various tools related to OHH. As these lines of research begin to produce publishable findings, and CEC relationships begin to mature and call for greater investment of time and resources, additional support is needed to maintain the efforts of the CEC in the areas of research, teaching, and service in hopes of securing additional funding to continue this work.


Required Education and Experience:

· A terminal degree in environmental sciences· Three or more years of expertise working within the OHHC2I· Demonstrated exptertise in applying social science methods to investigate OHH research questions


Preferred Qualifications:

· PhD in environmental health sciences; ABD will be considered· Previous publication of social science research in peer-reviewed literature· Publishable research data or findings resulting from recent dissertation or other work· Working relationships with OHHC2I CEC partners and other stakeholders


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for working alongside identified underserved and environmental justice (EJ) communities and organizations that engage communities facing environmental challenges to design.


· Knowledge of the principles and major issues within the OHH field· Knowledge of social science theories and methods, and how to apply them· Knowledge of grant prospecting resources and grant preparation best practices· Outstanding oral and written communication skills· Ability to generate consensus and lead small teams
