Summary
The Principal Engineer for Industrial Water Treatment collaborates across the organization including sales, applications, project execution, product development and field service on project specific needs, continuous improvement initiatives and other special projects such as due diligence for potential acquisition. Responsible for technical understanding of the Newterra industrial water product offerings (i.e. RO, IX, GAC, UF, EDI), recommending and executing on continuous improvement initiatives and mentoring the engineering team ensuring knowledge transfer and technical growth within the organization.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide clear and effective guidance for technical solutions to the sales, applications, project execution and product development engineering teams, ensuring customer requirements are achieved in line with Newterra practices from a commercial, design and execution perspective.
  • Recommend, evaluate, and implement new technologies and processes to improve our customer deliverables with a focus on efficiency in execution, cost reduction, manufacturability, operation, and overall performance.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring of engineering team members to foster knowledge transfer, development of skills and individual growth within the organization.
  • Partner with Engineering Managers to assist in recruitment, hiring and training as required.
  • Solve challenging technical, people and/or process problems of significant scope, complexity, and ambiguity.
  • Support and champion corporate directives, policies and initiatives
  • Responsible for contributing as a central engineering expert in technical, business, and organizational initiatives affecting customers and internal teams.
  • Participate in technical assessment of merger and acquisition targets as required/requested.
  • Requires travel to client sites, company facilities, vendors, etc. both domestically and internationally (10-20%)
  • Other duties as assigned.
Other Duties And Responsibilities
  • Serve as an engineering expert internally and externally to manufacturing, suppliers, and customers.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, developments, and new technologies relevant to the industry.
  • Responsible for performing duties in a safe manner and promoting safety to others in accordance with Newterra's safety policies and procedures. This includes reporting all safety concerns, near-misses, and incidents to their manager.
  • Adhere to the company processes as detailed in Newterra's online systems and programs and bring forward ideas for continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for completing all assigned training applicable to your position in the applicable timeframe.
  • Complete all responsibilities while ensuring adherence to Newterra's Delegation of Authority.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in state (preferred)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the design, optimization, operation, and troubleshooting of water treatment systems for industrial applications, including but not limited to reverse osmosis, ion exchange, media filtration, ultrafiltration, electrodionization.
  • Experience utilizing CAD programs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of water treatment process design which may include biological nutrient removal, modular treatment system, DAF, pilot testing, process modeling, advanced oxidation, media filtration, reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, ion exchange systems, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to commission, operate and troubleshoot industrial water treatment systems in the field.
  • Effective communicator and cross-functional collaborator.
  • Strong active listening skills and the ability to comprehend and respond in an effective manner.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-moving environment with multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Strong critical thinking/problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve a common goal.
Physical Demands
Regularly required to sit for prolonged periods; frequently required to stand, walk, and use business equipment daily such as a computer, copier, telephone, etc.; occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 15 lbs. Complex thinking and analysis required with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
Work Environment
Works in an office environment and required to work or visit production sites and exposed to manufacturing elements such as loud noise, hazardous equipment, and materials. Company safety standards must be always followed.
