Position Focus:

In collaboration with New Haven Public Schools (NHPS), Southern
Connecticut State University (SCSU), and New Haven Promise, Yale
University is launching a teacher residency program aimed at
recruiting and nurturing high-quality, diverse educators for the
New Haven public school system.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for New Haven Affairs and
University Properties in collaboration with the Director of the
Education Studies Program, the Teacher Residency Program Director
will oversee Yale's role in developing the fellowship program.
While the master's degree program will be pursued at SCSU, the
Director will spearhead the launch of the fellowship, manage
recruitment efforts, coordinate with partners, and provide
Yale-based support for fellows and New Haven teachers.

The Director will provide leadership, program administration, and
team supervision, and will build collaborations with community
partners. This multifaceted role combines teacher development,
community engagement, project management, and leadership in higher
education.

Lead Yale's oversight of the residency program, managing budget and
partnerships. Coordinate with New Haven Promise for Fellow
selection. Host recruitment sessions and interface with applicants.
Design and lead summer training for mentor teachers.

Collaborate with SCSU to support fellowship recipients. Implement
mentorship support for fellows and new teachers, fostering
community and professional development. Provide ongoing coaching
and professional development workshops. Design program evaluations
and share best practices nationally. Option to advise fellows' SCSU
research projects

Build strong relationships with educators, NHPS, and community
partners. Connect with school district and residency colleagues
around the country to share best practices. Coordinate with campus
units providing programming for teachers including the Education
Studies Partner Teachers Program.

Essential Duties:

1. Directs one or more functional areas within an administrative
department of the University and ensure compliance with University
policies and procedures. 2. Directs analytic and research support
for educational policies and planning, and develops and approves
administrative policies affecting assigned functional areas of the
University. 3. Directs and establishes parameters for major
projects for the department and University. 4. Interprets federal
policies and regulations and educates staff and administration
about regulations, restrictions, and the legal responsibilities of
the University. 5. Directs and implements policy and program
modifications and develops standards to ensure compliance with
federal, state and local regulations. 6. Develops and administers
an operating budget for the assigned department consistent with
University policies and procedures. 7. Develops cost savings
objectives and goals; authorizes major purchases and negotiates
contracts that range from routine to complex in nature. 8.
Establishes and implements long- and short-range goals for the
functional area consistent with University goals and objectives. 9.
Directs the development of related automated systems to support the
function; determines office policies and procedures for use of
automated systems. 10. Directs the evaluation and selection of
vendors and negotiates contract details including work steps and
pricing with the vendors on behalf of the assigned functional area.
11. Works with internal and external contacts to solve problems
that range from routine to complex in nature. 12. Represents the
University in discussions and negotiations with various
governmental agencies. 13. Directs a staff of exempt and nonexempt
employees. 14. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

Masters degree plus five years of relevant experience or an
equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Proven and extensive urban public K-12 teaching, curriculum
development, teacher training and coaching experience.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Excellent interpersonal, project management and communication
skills.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Proven experience and comfort in engaging in conversations about
race, anti-racism and the historical legacy of slavery.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in
education.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Demonstrated success in building and maintaining partnerships with
educational institutions, community organizations, and other
stakeholders.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Proven experience in teacher preparation or fellowship programs.
Demonstrated experience working in or with urban school districts,
particularly with diverse student populations, is strongly
preferred. Familiarity with New Havens educational landscape and
historical context is highly valued. Experience in higher education
is ideal.
