Description: Job Summary

This position contributes to the programming of the Center's Washington location. The incumbent works under the guidance and coordination of the Hospitality Manager and is responsible for all tasks relating to cleaning and upkeep of all the buildings including, the library/administration building, five guest rooms, and the Director's residence throughout the year, as well as the residential units at times of residents' rotation. Through its effectiveness, it provides a safe, clean, & hospitable environment to all the Center's personnel who work on campus as well as: (1) the research fellows who reside on campus, special programs attendees, and (3) visitors who come to use the Center's library and facilities.

Position Description

Responsible for all housekeeping tasks throughout the buildings of the Center, including, but not limited to, dusting, vacuuming, scrubbing, mopping, window washing, laundering, as well as cleaning and sanitation of bathrooms.

Participates in physical care of library collection by dusting library stacks regularly to minimize dust accumulations.

Participates in housecleaning of residential scholars' dwellings periodically during the fellowship term and between programs, specifically, at the end of fellowship term and summer programs.

Assists in preparation of all linens used in fellows' housing, guestrooms, and Center's kitchen. Preparation includes inventorying, laundering, mending, and ironing.

Assists in periodic written inventory of housekeeping supplies and Center furnishings.

Provides support to the kitchen team for the lunch service and special events as needed, including setup, breakdown, and cleanup of dining room and kitchen.

Provides a high level of customer service and interfaces with Center staff and guests.

Basic Qualifications

High School degree or equivalent required. Minimum 5 years of experience in similar environment required. Ability to operate equipment including, but not limited to; canister and upright vacuums, floor polisher, carpet steamer, commercial dishwasher, washer/dryer, rotary iron, etc.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Good communication and computer skills, specifically, ability with MS Office (Word, Excel).

Working Conditions

Indoors throughout the 8 buildings of the campus of the Center for Hellenic Studies.
