Position: Senior Data Scientist



Job Location: 860 W. California Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94086



Duties: Work on building state-of-the-art Machine Learning models by ingesting and training terabytes of customer data from various Walmart channels and optimizing them to achieve business objectives. Design and implement highly scalable distributed systems and storage using advanced algorithms and data engineering tools such as Spark, Airflow, and Kafka. Design and implement large scale recommender systems to cater to millions of customers. Work in an agile development environment with the scrum team. Own end-to-end data science solutions and provide regular metrics for model performance analysis. Design and develop robust high-performance and scalable applications such as session-based recommendation models and personalized monetization on Walmart item pages. Design and implement highly scalable deep learning models and deploy them into production using container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes. Design and develop appropriate modeling techniques for complex problems with large scale, multiple structured and unstructured data sets using advanced machine learning algorithms (such as Neural Networks, Natural Language Processing, Regression Models, and Gradient Boosting Algorithms). Guide the team on feature engineering, experimentation, and advanced modeling techniques to be used for complex problems with unstructured data sets to perform continuous, online model learning along with iterative model enhancement. Modify features and models iteratively based on model responses in collaboration with the business data requirements.



Minimum education and experience required: Master's degree or equivalent in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 year of experience in an analytics related field; OR Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years of experience in an analytics related field.



Skills required: Experience with Machine Learning frameworks including Tensorflow, PyTorch, and Pandas. Experience with natural language processing and topic modeling. Experience with Big Data platforms Apache Spark, Apache Airflow, and Apache PySpark. Experience with programming languages Java and Python. Experience with databases including SQL and MongoDb5. Experience with probability, statistics, and graph neural network machine learning models. Experience with data visualization with modern plotting frameworks including ggplot2 and matplotlib. Experience with advanced data structures and computer algorithms. Demonstrated knowledge of reinforcement learning and convex optimizations. Experience applying recommender systems, Learning to rank algorithms, multi-objective optimizations, and evaluation. Employer will accept any amount of graduate coursework, graduate research experience or professional experience with the required skills.




Salary Range: $170,186/year to $234,000/year. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include: Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location) and Stock equity incentives.
