Position: Software Engineer III



Job Location: 640 W. California Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94086



Duties: Build high throughput data pipelines using Apache Kafka and Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Data Lake to enable a sophisticated Walmart Catalog that ensures all data transmission is secure and protected. Design and develop Walmart's backend retail applications and services. Setup, configure, deploy, and maintain Kafka clusters and JMS systems based on the user's requirements. Enable managed Kafka platform to support private and public cloud infrastructure to increase the availability and run the clusters efficiently. Integrate the Kafka client with service registry and cloud configuration management services. Provide disaster recovery and failover and failback mechanisms and develop monitoring scripts. Certify versions of Kafka by performance testing in various data centers and clouds. Develop real-time streaming technology use cases leveraging Akka streams and reactive design patterns. Tune performance and troubleshoot distributed messaging systems to handle large throughputs. Troubleshoot production issues to perform root cause analysis to restore and recover the systems quickly and prevent incidents in the future. Design and develop complex analytical pipelines using Apache Spark and other distributed streaming platforms. Utilize data structure and algorithmic skills to develop data mining patterns for deriving meaningful insights from terabytes of data. Design and develop cloud-native, distributed, high performant, and scalable microservices for Walmart's Grocery Ecosystem. Design and build big data platforms using Hortonworks, Cloudera CDH, and Apache Hadoop as data storage. Design and build processing systems using Apache Spark and Presto Analytics Engine. Build, operate, and evolve high throughput distributed messaging platform using Apache Kafka to help with data integrations across Walmart eCommerce operations and Walmart stores.



Minimum education and experience required: Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering (any), or a related field. Position does not require specific years of experience but requires listed skills.




Skills required: Experience implementing Apache Kafka and Apache Zookeeper to provision Kafka Clusters. Experience designing and developing Batch ETL Jobs for business use cases using Hadoop. Experience developing applications to monitor system metrics using Grafana. Experience implementing SSL and SASL Security on Apache Kafka Production Clusters. Experience designing and creating CI/CD pipelines for Kafka platform provisioning. Experience building the platform control panels to operate fleet of systems efficiently. Experience coding in Java and J2EE to implement Microservices and create monitoring tools for stateless components including REST Proxy and Lenses. Experience developing automation scripts using Groovy for the software application process to build and deploy the artifacts to the repositories. Experience designing and building Big Data platforms using Hortonworks and Cloudera CDH. Experience applying agile methodology throughout the software development cycle. Experience building high availability distributed messaging systems using Apache Kafka. Employer will accept any amount of professional experience with the required skills.




Salary Range: $184,662/year to $234,000/year. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include: Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location) and Stock equity incentives.
