Department Information



The Clinical Research Center (CRC) is a component of the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (an IU School of Medicine Institute). The purpose of the CRC is to provide high-quality clinical research services and facilities for investigators conducting research.


The Indiana CTSI Clinical Research Centers (CRCs) provide space, nursing, and nutrition support.



Job Summary



The primary purpose of this position is to assist with a new study that requires a 7-day inpatient stay. Study involves administering an investigational drug to determine if it will help with opioid withdrawal. Therefore, the patient population being recruited for this study are those with Opioid Use Disorder already engaged in outpatient treatment.


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Supports the Clinical Research Center in the conduct of clinical research studies on the IU Indianapolis campus.

  • Coordinates, facilitates, and performs various study visit activities, including vital signs, phlebotomy, ECGs and questionnaires.

  • Records study data, samples, and/or results; performs validation checks.

  • Monitors study team compliance with protocols and SOPs; communicates with PI and Sub-Investigators about concerns.

  • Initiates, conducts, completes, and reports clinical studies/trials in variety of therapeutic areas.

  • Coordinates pre-study site visits or sponsor/s, participates in study start-up activities, assists with recruitment, conducts study visits, completes IRB Submissions and other regulatory requirements, enters data into sponsor-specified systems, assists study monitor during site monitoring visits, completes study close-out and achieves sources documents while ensuring compliance with protocol, regulatory and standard operating procedures (SOP), and follows Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.

  • Develops solutions to complex problems that impact the timely and accurate conduct of clinical research.

  • Assesses and evaluates the patient's condition, initiates emergency measures as necessary, and intervenes appropriately in crisis situations.

  • Provides independent processional care through the applications of stand orders.

  • Takes vital signs including blood pressure, pain evaluation, expiratory peak flow measurement, pulse, respirations, temperature, height, weight, pulse oximetry.

  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Maintains personal and patients' safety with attention to bloodborne pathogens, sterility, respirator use and fit testing, negative pressure exam room utilization, psychological distress, and contagious diseases.

  • May assist with other study visits.




Qualifications



EDUCATION



Required



  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).

WORK EXPERIENCE



Required



  • Experience in phlebotomy, obtaining height, weight, vital signs, and ECGs.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES



Required



  • Medical Assistant Certification upon date of hire.

SKILLS



Required



  • Proficient communication skills.




Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Location



Indianapolis, Indiana



Work Hours



Friday night - Monday morning.


Must be able to work 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM shifts as well as 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM shifts on weekends.


Ability to work Saturday and Sunday, day shift, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and/or Thursday - Sunday, night shift, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM.


The maximum number of shifts per week will be 2, 12-hour shifts.
