$101,404.00 to $126,755.00


Location: Portland, Oregon


The Senior Meteorologist in Fundamentals and Trading is a key part of the trading team providing live input
into the daily fluctuations of meteorological forecasting concepts including temperature, precip, solar, and
wind. This position works in a fast-paced environment where accurate energy production estimates and
forecast interpretations are critical to the success of the business. Excellent communication and
organization skills, and strategic initiative, are recognized and rewarded. This in-office position, located in
Portland, Oregon, reports to the Director of Fundamentals and Trading Infrastructure.
The successful candidate will:
• Work closely and proactively with the trading team to assess the forecasting needs for different
regions and assets.
• Monitor and interpret wind and solar forecasts to communicate how they may affect the different
trading markets.
• Design and create intelligent Tableau reports that give various market insights to trading.
• Track extreme weather conditions (i.e. hurricanes, tornadoes, severe seasonal storms, etc.)
• Prepare and disperse real time updates regarding wildfires.
• Conduct hydro forecasting analysis through attending TMT calls, performing data analytics,
compiling forecast sources including UW, Snotel, USGS, NWRFC, ESP.
• Aid in creating internal regional hydro models.
• Provide expertise on industry weather vendor services including: Radiant/Maxar, WSI, CWG,
WDT, NOAA, NWS, etc.
• Monitor meteorological factors for ISOs/regions that we trade in and have assets in including, but
not limited to: CAISO, ERCOT, WECC, PJM, NYISO & MISO.
• Interpret national forecast models and share updates continually throughout the trading day.
• Conduct detailed technical analyses of measured and modeled data.
• Ability to troubleshoot database issues and web scraping functions.
• Maintain a consistent approach to problem solving utilizing creativity and collaboration with
others.
• Develop and validate new methodologies and software tools.
• Assist and/or lead in the design and optimization/automation of manual processes.
• Understand and apply scenario analysis supported by measured forecast data, actual data,
and/or industry best-practices.
• Conduct robust uncertainty analyses.
• Prepare comprehensive reports that adhere to company guidelines and industry best-practices.
• Attend and participate in relevant industry conferences and committees to support Avangrid
Renewables through maintaining a comprehensive understanding of industry and academic
research and best-practice methodologies.
• Have excellent organization skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively in a timely
manner with a multi-discipline, international team of personnel.
• Ability to meet deadlines, rapidly adapt to changing priorities, and innovate solutions.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Statistics, or Physics.
• Master's degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science preferred.
• A minimum of 8 years of industry-relevant experience.
• Software requirements: Microsoft Suite. Python, Perl and/or R experience. VBA skills. Tableau
Desktop/Server. SQL (Oracle / SQL Server / MySQL
