The University of Miami Health System at Doral has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Speech Pathologist 2 with a hire date of June 2024. The Speech Pathologist 2 assesses and treats individuals referred with speech, language, voice, and/or swallowing disorders and impairments. The incumbent takes part in a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with physicians, other clinical providers, and family members to provide evidence-based treatment approaches.


The University of Miami Health System will soon open the second phase to our state-of-the-art facility in Downtown Doral that serves as a western hub for our distinguished regional network of ambulatory services. This 160,000 square foot expansion will continue to bring world-class academic medicine, cutting-edge technology, and innovative treatment options to the rapidly growing Doral community. UHealth at Doral will have services through the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and the Desai Sethi Urology Institute, as well as specialties such as cardiology, endocrinology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, dermatology, and more. The expansion will provide residents with innovative, specialized medical services in the heart of their community. Once complete, UHealth at Doral will have 8 operating rooms, 3 endoscopy procedure rooms, 33 cancer treatment bays, over 60 multidisciplinary exam rooms, and supporting ancillary services like imaging, lab, and respiratory therapy. UHealth at Doral will open in September, 2024.

1. Takes part in a multidisciplinary team to implement treatment strategies and achieve functional outcomes.
2. Develops, plans, and implements a program for generalization of speech and language goals for both home-based and center-based students.
3. Implements classroom-based therapy models and techniques to coincide with program philosophy.
4. Implements therapy in a natural environment whenever possible.
5. Consults with classroom teachers to implement speech therapy goals in the classroom.
6. Evaluates, plans, and implements the use of assistive technology in classrooms.
7. Writes initial speech language pathology evaluations, quarterly progress notes, Medicaid notes, plans of care, family support plan goals, and final discharge summaries.
8. Provides guidance to parents and classroom staff on appropriate communication strategies to facilitate skill generalization.
9. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS




Education:



Master's Degree in relevant field



Certification and Licensing:



Certification in relevant specialty or field



Experience:


Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM




Department Specific Functions



1. Experience performing and interpreting modified barium swallow studies is required.
2. Maintaining a caseload of speech, voice, and swallowing therapy patients with diverse diagnoses is required.
3. Participation in a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced clinical environment to provide comprehensive care to patients with head and neck cancer in both outpatient and acute care settings is required.
4. Experience performing and interpreting flexible endoscopic evaluations of swallowing is preferred.
5. Familiarity with rehabilitation following total laryngectomy, including tracheoesophageal voice prosthesis, use of an electrolarynx, and application of heat and moisture exchanger systems is preferred.
6. Familiarity with the application of tracheostomy speaking valves is preferred.
7. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
