Overview

The Medical Director of the Legacy Clinics supervises all physicians and nurse practitioners at assigned clinic sites, assists in establishing and operating within department budgets, assists in program development, and oversees quality of care for the Legacy Clinics.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduate of four-year accredited U.S. Medical School or equivalent. Completion of an approved residency in Internal Medicine or Family Practice.

Experience: A minimum of five years’ experience in primary care. Experience as a physician leader.

Certification/Licensure:

  • M.D. or D.O.
  • Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine or Family Practice.
  • License to practice Medicine in the applicable state.
  • Membership on the medical staff of a Legacy hospital.

Skills: Demonstrated leadership ability.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

LEADERSHIP:

Provides overall medical staff leadership, oversight, direction, and support for all programs within the Legacy Clinics.

  • Supervises physicians and nurse practitioners at assigned sites including performance reviews of the site directors.
  • Meets all performance expectations for clinic productivity in patient care and provides counseling to site director and relevant physicians in achieving goals and targets.
  • Provides medical leadership in assigned functional areas, e.g. teaching/academic medicine, professional compensation, quality improvement and clinical technology.
  • Ensures implementation of approved programs and policies.
  • Promotes Primary Care Renewal at relevant sites.
  • Supports and facilitates medical staff and other providers in their respective roles within the Legacy Clinics while helping to ensure activities which are clinically oriented to high quality, cost-effective patient care.

ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT:

  • Works closely with the CMOs, Administrative Directors, CAO of Legacy Clinics, Site Medical Directors and site managers of the Legacy Clinics in physician recruitment and opening new clinics; determining the organization, functions, administrative policies and procedures of the Clinics; selection of equipment; employee supervision; and maintaining budget and operating plans.
  • Assists Site Medical Directors in monitoring and ensuring that Legacy Clinics services meet the regulations and guidelines of appropriate government agencies and accrediting organizations.
  • Ensures that all Legacy Clinics programs and activities are carried out with primary consideration for the welfare of the patient and protection of the patient’s rights.
  • Serves as a member of the Primary Care Council and other administrative committees as assigned.
