Job Title:Greenhouse SuperintendentDepartment:Arts and Sciences | Molecular Genetics Administration

The Greenhouse Superintendent will be responsible for the preventive maintenance, general upkeep, and proper functioning of various types of research equipment. The Greenhouse Superintendent will be responsible for maintaining a preventive maintenance schedule and working with outside contractors on all preventive maintenance contracts and emergency repairs including daily inspection of walk-in cold rooms and -80 degree freezers. The Greenhouse Superintendent will work closely with numerous Principal Investigators from several plant science departments to ensure success of their research projects. The Greenhouse Superintendent will be responsible for pest and pathogen management on crops within both controlled environments (greenhouse and growth chambers) including daily inspections of the plants and weekly pest notes. Works closely with The Arabidopsis Biological Resource Center (ABRC). In addition to the duties listed above, the Greenhouse Superintendent will assist with two planting cycles each year and daily watering of Arabidopsis plants during the growing season and will also handle the yearly phytosanitary inspection and certification process for ABRC. The Greenhouse Superintendent will use proprietary software to maintain all aspects of greenhouse environmental conditions of the Biotech Facility Greenhouse: photoperiod, shading/light levels, cooling, heating, humidity etc. This position will need to program specific conditions and provide data to researchers when requested. The Greenhouse Superintendent will work with proprietary software for control over large walk-in and reach-in growth chambers and will also be responsible for programming and manipulating customized (non-proprietary) controlled environment systems.




Minimum Education Required


Associate Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in horticulture or biology




Required Qualifications


Knowledge of general greenhouse procedures and equipment is required. Four years of relevant experience required. Requires successful completion of a background check.




Desired Qualifications


Basic computer skills: MS Word, Access and Excel skills strongly desired. Mechanical skills. Experience in greenhouse operation and management, pest and beneficial insect identification and Integrated Pest Management practices, and knowledge of greenhouse and growth chamber equipment desired. Basic plumbing and electrical skills desired.

The pay range for this job profile is $17.10 - $22.62. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
