Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.:



  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and tools.

  • Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate in English and follow basic work instructions.

  • Experience working in either of the following: custodial, hospitality, environmental services, warehouse, production, or facilities maintenance.

  • Able to perform all physical aspects of assigned duties, including stooping, reaching, climbing, and lifting to 30 pounds unassisted and 50 pounds assisted. Walk 3- 5 miles daily and access all areas of the building in a timely manner.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or GED.

  • More than six months of experience working in either of the following: custodial, hospitality, environmental services, warehouse, production, or facilities maintenance.

  • Knowledge of professional cleaning methods and techniques, including measuring and mixing cleaning chemicals

  • Strong interpersonal communication, customer service, and willingness to be a team member.

  • Basic computer skills


Job Description:

The custodian will provide custodial maintenance tasks in a team cleaning environment within an assigned area for the Department of Housing and Residential Life. Custodians provide a quality customer services. This position at times will occasionally work weekends, holidays, and earlier/later than scheduled shifts to meet department and university needs. Be able to perform all physical aspects of assigned duties, including stooping, reaching, climbing, and lifting to 30 pounds unassisted and 50 pounds assisted. The hiring decision is contingent upon the applicant clearing a background check. All applications are reviewed online.


Job Duties:



  • Work in all buildings managed by Housing & Residential Life, performing general cleaning and porter services according to schedule or instructions, using safe and prescribed procedures.

  • Sweep and clean building entrances and public areas. Empty trash and recycling and pick up litter. Use commercial custodial equipment, including backpack vacuum, floor machine, and auto-scrubber.

  • Service and restock restrooms throughout the day.

  • Secure buildings and rooms on schedule and or after cleaning. Follow correct unlocking, locking, and alarm procedures. Carry University ID during working hours.

  • Perform set-ups for special events. Provide emergency response and clean up for floods and other custodial emergencies.

  • Respond to custodial requests. Communicate effectively with clients on cleaning issues.

  • Fill in as required for other crew members.

  • Establish positive work relationships with supervisors, peers, to provide excellent customer services.

  • Other duties as assigned.
