Description
The Department of Art History at the University of Chicago invites applications for a Research Assistant Professor in the History of Photography to begin on July 1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The department seeks a scholar in any area of the history of photography who will further their own research in collaboration with faculty in the department and elsewhere in the Division of Humanities. The selected candidate will 1) conduct research in their field of concentration under the mentorship of a faculty member, 2) participate in regular colloquia and workshops in the department, advise and mentor students in consultation with the department, 3) cultivate research and curatorial collaborations with other units and organizations on and off campus, and 4) be in residence at the University of Chicago during the three quarters of the academic year. Depending on qualifications and departmental need, the selected candidate may be able to teach up to two courses per year.
The selected candidate will be appointed at the rank of Research Assistant Professor for an initial term of three years. Reappointment and promotion are possible upon successful review.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD in Art History or a related field, have an active scholarly agenda leading to a record of published work which makes important contributions to the applicant's field, or have the potential to do so. Applicants must also demonstrate the potential for increasingly distinguished scholarly achievement and to develop collaborate relationships across campus.
