Position Summary:

The Equipment Engineering Technician 3 is part of the Equipment Life Cycle Management team for the Hayward site. This individual is responsible for maintaining compliance and performing calibration and preventive maintenance activities on equipment used in an instrument production environment. This individual will work in a dynamic team-oriented environment that supports multiple operations and technologies helping Illumina deliver its highly complex product pipeline in a reliable and sustainable manner.

The Equipment Engineering Technician 3 also works with relevant departments to ensure successful implementation of quality systems and communicates the impact of changes to areas affected to ensure that the changes are integrated into day to day operations. This role is fully on-site.

Responsibilities:


  • Manage program for calibration and preventive maintenance of equipment/tools used in instrument production environment

  • Perform calibration and maintenance activities on or before due date to written work instructions

  • Works on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations; escalates concerns when necessary.

  • Interface with service providers to coordinate onsite activities and inputs to/reporting from hosted software solution

  • Complete shipping requests for sending equipment out for service as needed

  • Review and recommend changes to existing calibration and maintenance procedures and engineering specifications

  • Supports other calibration/services team tasks as assigned which can include:

    • Receiving new equipment due to onboarding and labeling

    • Assisting in equipment inventory investigations and resolutions

    • Generating reports and completing special projects



  • Complete tasks with minimal supervision and report/track progress through a digital ticketing system.

Experience:


  • 3+ years of experience as an Equipment Technician, preferably in biotech or medical device industry

  • Should have the ability to effectively and efficiently coordinate several tasks at the same time

  • FDA/ISO experience

  • Understanding and working knowledge in calibration and preventative maintenance activities

  • Proficient with the use of standard calibration tools such as torque analyzers and measurement standards

  • Must have working knowledge of acceptance sampling plans and basic statistics

  • Must have computer skills and competent in Microsoft Office applications

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Must be able to identify and recommend effective solutions to problems and working individually and with others within and outside his/her function.

  • Must show self-initiative but be comfortable in the role of a team player.

  • Minimum travel may be required.

  • Very detailed and self-motivated. Able to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Solid experience with MRP/ERP databases.

  • Must be able to lift to 35 pounds

Education:

Associate degree in science or engineering related fields, or equivalent combination of education and experience. ASQ Certification (CMI/CQT) is a plus.

The estimated base hourly range for the Equipment Engineering Technician 3 role based in the United States of America is: $31.10 - $46.68. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
