Position Description
?
Northern Improvement is looking for skilled operators with experience in excavators, dozers, and/or blades. The Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of multiple pieces of construction equipment.
Duties and responsibilities
- Skilled operation of excavators, dozers, and/or blades
- Operate various other pieces of construction equipment used in earth-moving operations (ex. Scrapers, Articulated off-road trucks, compactors, etc.)
- Operate construction equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment
- Operate the equipment in the right direction and angles to prevent accidents and damage to property
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, and lubricate, refill, and clean equipment as necessary
- Use various pieces of equipment to perform fine grading and finishing, sloping and banking, backfilling, demolition, ditching, loading, excavating, and stockpiling
- Operate equipment in various situations, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings
- Report the need for large repairs to the appropriate parties
- Must be safety-oriented at all times
- Work respectfully with supervisor staff, crew members, and other personnel on the job site
- All other duties as assigned, delegated, or necessary for operations
Position Requirements
Qualifications
- Strong work ethic (dependable, excellent attendance, trustworthy)
- Minimum two years of operating construction equipment
- Experience with multiple pieces of construction equipment is a plus
- Must have reliable means of transportation
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Ability to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employment
Working conditions
- Outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures
- Occasional exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises
- May be required to work 60+ hours, 6 days a week
Physical requirements
- Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
- Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments
- Standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment
- Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
- Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object(s) weighing up to 50 pounds
