Job Description:

We are working with a Company on a search for an experienced In-House Insurance Claims Counsel for their corporate legal department located in uptown Charlotte. The company is a group of property/casualty insurance companies writing a wide variety of commercial, personal, admitted and surplus lines insurance business nationwide with offices in Charlotte, Dallas and Puerto Rico.

This attorney position is within the Legal/Compliance Dept. and reports to General Counsel, and is dedicated exclusively to their claims function. This position provides a wide range of legal support to the company's claim department and claims function overall, including: working in close coordination with company claim professionals and external claims administrators; oversight and management of all claims litigation; oversight and management of external claims counsel (defense and coverage); analyze and report on claims litigation data and trends; develop strategies and procedures to optimize claim litigation management; identify and manage emerging risks; and early intervention in special matters.

This position is full time, requires in-office presence, and is available immediately.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Mandatory past experience includes 5-10 years of experience: insurance claims (defense) litigation, either (a) in-house at an insurance company, (b) in-house at a third-party claims administrator, and/or (c) external law firm claims (defense) counsel to insurance companies.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Providing wide variety of legal services exclusively to the claims department;

Coordination and management of all claims litigation matters;

Oversight and management of external legal claims counsel (defense and coverage);

Participation in claims-focused working groups for special projects;

Work closely with external TPA firms and other company partners;

Gather, analyze and report aggregated data and information on claims litigation;

Develop and implement strategies for claims litigation optimization;

Identify and mitigate emerging risks;

Maintain appropriate files;

Perform legal research;

Interact with various company departments and colleagues;

Ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;

Meticulous attention to detail and quality; precision in drafting and clear communication;

Ability to uphold standards of complete discretion, confidentiality, ethics and fair/proper behavior;

Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, SharePoint and PowerPoint.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

J.D. degree and at least one active state bar admission, preferably Texas or North Carolina.
